I've just busted my ring for the past 3 months to "renovate" my 54 DeSoto ready for Big Als Poker Run here in Perth which I believe is on Feb 13. The only thing stopping me now is paperwork from the licensing centre! Still a couple of trim bits to go on, but that'll entertain me this weekend. My wife had her birthday recently, so I gave her the keys to this in an effort to get more involved in the rodding and custom scene. Thanks to Von Kustard (K.S.K. here on the HAMB) for the striping which completely finished the look.
Yeah, they don't look as nice as the American version, basically a 54 Plymouth with different grille and badges. I only got it for the grille a few years back (see pics), but after finding out how rare they are, I couldn't bring myself to scrap it. It sure turns heads now.
LMAO!!! I was looking at the photos for about 10 minutes trying to figure out what the heck he did with the '54 Desoto....then I read the next post about Australia. LOL. I've had a handful of '54 Desotos and own a '54 sportsman currently and it looks really customized and I can't figure out just how. OK, I get it now. DUH! Awesome car! Nice job!!
Nice photos man. Great day and really happy I got a plate on it for the run. Not too happy that I can't navigate for shit and had to buy yet another map to get to the first check-point, but it all worked out fine in the end. Damn cryptic clues..
Likewise man. Wouldn't be any good without your skillful hand I can assure you. Can't wait for the Pipeline Picnic. See you there..
Big Al's cryptic clues, missed the first checkpoint, ended up on the Freeway was going to go back but the navigator mentioned Mill Point Rd so forget the first check point. We ended up having a better time hooking on to any line of cars right till the end and picked up the last checkpoint. Only just made it as the 400 crapped a starter motor Saturday morning and had to rob one from my 66 Dodge. 318 poly and 400 big block starter motors are the same. Next year the Newport and the Dodge will be there.
I'd kinda hoped my state of being wasn't all that noticeable. Perhaps not... of course it was the wife's driving that got us lost, not my flawless navigation.
I've seen your car at a couple of events. Nice job. Will have to come up and say hello next time I see you.
