1941 Ford...underappreciated?

This week a friend of mine here on the HAMB took delivery of a stock looking 1941 Ford coupe. I was really surprised at how cool and interesting the 41 is, since it has generally been overshadowed by the classic lines of it's predecessor, the iconic 1940 Ford. The details on the '41, such as the art-deco design of the front turn signals, the ribbed side trim, the script insignias, the dashboard, etc are, in my opinion, beautifully designed works of art. 41's make cool customs when they're smoothed, chopped, etc., but it almost seems like a shame to take off all the cool old styling elements. Anyway, I now have a greater appreciation for the not-too-popular 41. What do you think? Got pictures of your's or any favorite 41's?
(Judging from the last pic, it looks like Henry didn't like it too much!)

The "nut job" was Henry Ford, himself, swinging a sledge hammer to prove how strong the experimental soybean-based plastic was on a prototype '41. Least that's what I've heard.

I, too, have always liked the '41 's and do think, in general, they are passed over unfairly. But, then, there is no accounting for taste. People like what they like.

're the photo with the axe/sledge......I think that is a publicity shot.....possibly that deck lid is not steel. Around that time ford experimented with a type of plastic made from soy bean oil and produced some bodies and/or parts. I read about it years ago and do not remember the details..........

You're absolutely right...Henry was trying to not only save money building Fords but also help farmers shift from corn to soybeans...the body was soybean-based, but for reasons I have forgotten, he never put it into production.

Damm that doesnt look like Henry Ford. We think that we are ahead with Bio Fuels and good ol henry is making Bio trunk lids back in the day. Learn something new everyday.

Growing up, I thought it was one of the ugliest cars around, But after seeing so many '40's and '47's, I grew to like the '41. Now it's one of my favorite cars.

41 is my favorite year for coupes. Also, Henry Ford was a nut case! Just a smart one. Even though he thought everyone should have been driving Model Ts till day he died.

    this is a GREAT thread!
I have a 41 Super Deluxe Ford Opera Coupe w/auxilary jump seats, (one of the two short door coupes some would identify it as). The "long door" was known as a Sedan Coupe from Ford, it was a six passenger coupe.
I have become a 1941 Ford NERD since purchasing it, so if anyone has any questions go fuck yourself, just kidding!
Seriously, I love these cars, they are sooo killer w/little mods they look like pure class!
This thread has my pants getting tight!
Dudes, 41 Ford Coupes..... so bad ass!
    Sincerely,
    Cheatercarl

Yep, when I tell people that the plastic on my 42' dash is bio-plastics (soy) they flip out.

A '41, 2 door sedan will be my next prized possession... The styling of the grille is what turned me on to them.

I have always liked the 41's. they got a neat-o grille. I like them better than the 46-7 and 8's.

Bio fuel is way old news, Nazi's tried to supplement with it during WWII and found out you used more energy making it than you ended up with! I guess it is kind of like my stock picking strategy...buy high, sell low! ;)
