I was on it the other day checking out the wild custom pictured on our Holy Cow thread. No scam, just another neat web site about cool cars.
OK Guys if you can't read what I posted, here it is (I was advertising for Morbecs) So... I advertise for wheels in America - a very specific rare wheel made in very small volume in TX - rare in the TX let alone the States. This is the 2nd email from someone in the UK claiming to have what I want. Just so you know, this is what he wrote, "i saw your wanted of which i do have great parts for sale in my ware house... in mint condition and decent shape please if interested kindly reply me via email,i will be waiting Regards, Philip +447045701794 Spare Outlet 668 London, Thornton Health, CR7 7PE England" NOTE the duff telephone no. I wrote back telling him to send pictures and give me a price as I was only 2 miles aweay, I'd pop over and see him. Can't wait for the reply....NOT. His email is: philiplooker14@gmail.com please feel free to send this chump any crap you like. On a serious note a few HAMBERS have been offered stuff in the UK after placing wanted ads in the States. Don't let your enthusiasm cloud your judgement.
hi,i buy from a model a cowl post,,,i'm waiting in italy for them....they send all with tplc first flight shipping,,i hope don't have troubles....
There was a post on this ,,There is also a warning on Ford barn,,sell says " I have the perfect part for you" etc etc,,They reply mostly to "wanted" adds that are posted and its a scam
hi buy some pieces and him tell me a tracking number ,,and result that pieces are waiting for spedition in a uk company....
Every time I post a wanted add on the Fordbarn I get a response like that,I was looking for a Y block and was told he had one so I replyed back why would I buy a motor from someone in the UK as the shipping would be too expensive. He replyed back trying to convince me it would not so I just deleted the email.
The first post in this thread does not show the correct link as the post made on a British rod site is in a restricted section. What appears to be happening is that currently a group of scammers are targetting rod and classic sites here and in Europe. As said they are responding to wanted ads. I recently helped a guy on a TriFive forum who sent money to the UK for sedan delivery parts. He only got suspicious when he was asked by 'Firstflight', the shippers, for 50% export tax!(No such thing thankfully). It appears that the scammers have set up a fake Firstflight web page and even tracking numbers issued. Usual story, payment always requested by Western Union and an accomodation address in the UK so nothing traceable. Sorry Rodderbilly.
Don't worry it is a as good as HAMB Here is one of their topic's http://www.rodsnsods.co.uk/forum/showthread.php?t=7157
but the scammer when go to take the money give a document to the agent..and the name must to be the same as sender write....by the way i send a message to this bast...with a different email ,,i ask o ther pieces and he write me soon....i don't know what can i do,,,
I got one of those on an ad I had placed on the Graham Club web site. Apparently others did too as now there is a warning on the home page about the scam.
Scams on the internet??? Jeez!!! Who'da' ever thunk??? What's this world coming to!!! Mart3406 ===========================
The format of the phone number is correct, its a cell phone but there is just a 7 missing, so the correct number is +4477045701794. You can also use 00 instead of the+ I just called the number and got his voice mail The zip code is also correct, I just typed it into google maps and then street scene. The place appears to be a tyre shop... I suggest try calling him again. However the english looks very typical of a certain countries scammers! Good luck and keep us posted
The phone number has a 7 missing but is on a diverter to Nigeria. The fake shipping company website sent to 'buyers' has also been investigated and links back to Nigeria. These guys are contacting wanted ads throughout the classic and modified scene and pretending to be based in the UK or Canada.
when I get those from posting my email on ebaay ads and craigslist Ihave fun with them. I'll sign them up for free coupons and online gambling sweepstakes and free porn... Then I write up a "fuck you fuckball, no... just kidding buddy... thanks for spamming me you nut, now let me share something with you friend..." load the email with as many attachments of stupid pictures as It can take and foreward it to the scammer like 150 or 200 times (but i only have to send it once.) pings the piss out off their email bandwidth and keeps them busier than they want to be...you know the whole thing about crooks not liking to work...
The number does not have a 7 missing. It's a coincidence that the 07704 number connects to a real (and probably fairly annoyed) person, 0704 is the dialling code for a non-locational 'follow me' number. Add that to the malformed address (it's London Road and Thornton Heath) and it's an obvious scam.
Simply the phrasing, spelling and grammar of this response should have rung warning bells. It is not that of a native English speaker. I would also advise anyone who is asked for payment by Western Union to be very very wary. Use of Western Union money transfers is very very rare in UK. If you still want to take a chance on the rare item on offer - just pop over to the UK NSRA website (or Rods N Sods) and ask for help. Invariably, a local UK Rodder will offer to check out the address for you.
I think Rodderbilly means that when the scammer goes to the Western Union agent to collect cash he has to show some ID. Well obviously that ID is false as well Rodderbilly. You do know all Nigerians look pretty much the same. Tough luck , you got done over.
90% OF ALL offers that include the WESTERN UNION ARE SCAMS,ESPECIALLY WHEN IT HAS SOMETHING TO DO WITH SHIPPING,HELL scammers have there own paypal site now, looks legit,I always just tell them to send me a check for $ 20,000 more than my asking price and i"ll send them the change in $100 dollars bills,I also include a picture of a water mocasin and never hear from them again.
I have an ad on http://www.hotrodders.com/ that I am looking for a 114-0009 Hurst shifter boot that that "guy" under 4 different names e-mails me every few months telling me he has one in nice shape to sell me. Yep, if they want cash (Western Union) it is just about 99.9999999% it is a scam from Nigeria, as this one is. Hi, you just won $1,000,000.00US in a special drawing. Please send us $77.00US for paperwork fees so we can Next Day Express it to you. AND... what is SAD... People from all over the world send the scammers in Nigera LOTS of money. I think I read people sent them 1.7 BILLION dollars in 2008. That is crazy. No wonder they keep doing it. People just keep sending them money. Sorry rodderbilly... I think your money is probably GONE into a scammers pocket. NEVER send money Western Union or Cashiers Check unless you personally KNOW who you are sending it to and have known them for a while, know where they live and work, have talked to them on the phone. Here is some good reading about different scams: http://www.fbi.gov/majcases/fraud/fraudschemes.htm
Here's my latest - jeez the english is bad......... "Hello am Mr Allen, I saw your wanted ads advert so i decided mailing you. Please if interested one kindly contact me right away. Thanks, Allen Allen spares outlet 2 Liverpool street W1U 6PZ United Kingdom"
