When I saw this pop up on Craigslist last night, I knew I was looking at something very special and unusual. The price was right, so I bought it first thing this morning.
The old timer that owned it didn't know much about it, he bought it 25 years ago from a guy that collected cars. But this is Los Angeles, and you never know what's gonna spring up.

From what I can tell, it's a sectioned 1935 Studebaker with a 1949 Studebaker top and rear window. Ford tailights, and I'm not too sure of the rear below the back window.
It looks like it was probably a movie/TV car later in life, but I gotta imagine it had a show life before that. There is a small brass tag on the dash that says "The Dictator"

With the amount of work done to his thing, it's gotta be in an old magazine somewhere. It looks like it could possibly be a Barris built car. Piero is taking pictures over to him for me.

Take a look,... Anybody recognize it? Got any old pics of it? Opinions?

You are correct, it's a 1935 Studebaker (possibly a Dictator) with the rear windows of a '47 to '51 Studebaker Starlight Coupe. I've never seen or heard of it, and I am MOST intrigued. Do you mind if I post something about this over on the Studebaker Drivers Club forum? They'll go ape over this!

Here's a picture of a stock 35 and this car,...... It looks like it's been sectioned about 6-8 inches.

Bobby, Now that is one neat survivor ! That six needs to be replace with a 289 out of an Avanti - you know the one with a supercharger . . .

  9. That thing's fucking crazy!!!! I'm trying to imagine it in finished form...Pretty wild from the back,Bobby....Are you gonna try to fix it up? If anybody would have some info on it,it would be Rikster...

Bobby, Just looked at the mill again. The valve cover through me off at first. Then I realized that is a Falcon six probably '60 to '64.

  12. The taillights would look better next to the spare,Like a Zepher, instead of on the fenders. Do you have a pic of the rear of a stock one?

Here's a pic of the rear. When you compare, it looks like this was once a 35 Stude roadster

Or you could use a Studebaker straight or a 245 Commander 6 with multiple carbs. Or possibly a set up like the Studebaker Indy cars of the early 1930's. That car has lots of possibilities.

Great find... lots of possibilities... Will look great with some white walls and chrome hubcaps.

Unfortunately I cannot help identifying the car... I do not recall seeing it before in any of my documentation.

That is a hell of a find. I agree with bobby green it looks like it was a roadster with a star light coupe top. Contact Bullitnose he is into Studes and is very knowledgeable about the history of them. He lived in CA most of his life and may have been in contact with someone who knows about the car. Congrats on a really neat find hope you make it a truly neat car. It deserves it.

  25. DAMN!! I scour Craigslist for Studies everyday. Where was it? Very cool ride, can't wait to see it done. (and yes, use a Studebaker motor. Lots of speed stuff for the Champ 6)
