Im Gerry from Scotland UK. Since passing my driving test, Ive normally had a British Classic, and also a 10 year old reliable car when needed. I generally only slightly modified them with bolt on parts. I bought my 1959 Ford Consul early 2004 and after using it for a couple of years it was laid up until late 2008 when Ian H, a fellow member of The Klaymore-Kruisers allowed me to use half his garage to rebuild it. 18 months later, a usable rebuilt car left the garage with solid floor and chassis, new brakes, paint, interior and engine. The bodyshell was stripped to bare metal, and repaired with home-made patch panels. The majority of aluminium and chrome exterior trim including all badges were removed, a pair of skirts shipped in from Australia, and an Australian visor fitted. The front end was cleaned up by moving lights into the headlamps and turn signals moved into the home-made tooth grille. The body is painted in a custom mix of suede blue, and a pearl gold for the roof. 15 chrome smoothies up front with 50s Desoto hubcaps, 13 rear wheels, skirts, and lowering blocks on the original springs give it an aggressive stance. Running its standard 4 cylinder 1700cc engine and 3 speed column change box its slow and relatively reliable. Inside youll find the original bench seats with new Grey and Blue vinyl, and covered with Mexican blankets. The modern stereo plays Rockabilly and early country music when Im driving Youll find me at classic and custom/rod shows in the UK pointing my dSLR at the cars. Custom Car magazine (UK) and NSRA (UK) liked some of them enough to print them. During the week Im sometimes lucky enough to point my camera at young ladies when they ask me nicely, and pictures of Scotland when they dont. My photos are HERE and HERE and HERE
Hi Gerry welcome from another Jock! Tell Big Bruce and Co. at the Klaymores I was asking for them. Are the pics taken in Glasgow,it looks like the 'West end'. Maybe see you at Eglinton this year. I think I was talking to you last year when you were snapping some shots of the single seater. Nice Consul BTW!
Thanks for the welcome guys. Jock, I'll see Bruce and the rest of the Klaymores on Thursday as usual. Pop in some time and say hello, I'm not your message boy ;-) I'll plan for another drunk at Eglington. Thanks Mark and Charlie
Thanks for the invite.....I've had too many years attending shows/meets in the wife's Eurobox! I really want to turn up in a decent set of wheels. Sometime soon,I hope!
Hi Mark, yes thats Bruce. The 46 is coming along slowly but surely. Don't quote me, but he might be trying for completion this year.
Hello and Welcome Gerry From Scotland! From Jerry in Maryland! A song that Elvis Presley made famous was "Blue Suede Shoes". Your ride brought that to mind for some reason....Cool Shade! Real impressed with what you've accomplished as I know it's not as easy building a rod there as it is in these United States. Now if you really want to freak out these guys, tell us what you pay for a gallon of gas. Thanks for joining up to keep hot rodding alive throughout the world! Sir Woosh
Thanks Sir, Elvis Presley? Name kinda rings a bell I prefer the original and best Carl Perkins. The paint was matched to a mexican blanket. And yes it is a reference to Blue Suede Shoes, with a lager top. The broken tooth is a reflection of my own broken teeth, now fixed, but the grille is staying The overall effect was to make it look like an old build that had been re-painted, hence the worn and pitted chrome. Works at around $7.50 a gallon.
Greetings from Indiana. Be sure to look into the photography group here on the HAMB for some beautiful work. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/group.php?groupid=103 Looked at a bit of your photo blog last night. Looks like you've got a pretty good eye on you for this type of work! Really impressed with your low-light shooting.
Thanks for the welcome. Hope you realise I'm taking that as a complement. Heading over to that photography group to sign up if they'll have me. Gerry
