Wow i was really gonna try and not to get personal and ruin my thread but you have left me no choice. Your fucking GAY car has a motor that wasnt even around in the time period that you say your trying to copy. You have a CHROME valve covers which you said yourself were gay not to mention the TH 350? WTF? I mean really does your shit even run? If so i want time slips MR. Drag Racer. And yes i am building Fenderwell headers for a temp motor because im not a lazy fuck who is afraid of a little fabrication time. I actually hope the thread gets locked so i dont have to listen to anymore of your pussy online bullshit. I bet if you saw my truck at a hang out you would be the kind of guy that would come up and tell me all abotu your build...and nto say a damn word about how much you dislike my truck because you dont have your precious computer to protect yourself.
yeah, that dude floats around and shits on everyone's post, how the hell do you get over 3 k posts? look up his profile when you get on the board and you'll see he is always on here, right ruiner, just like your looking at this thread right now to see who is reacting to you, that's right, your profile gives away what thread your looking at
Hahaha, like I said, lots of things have changed on my project since anyone on here has seen it last...the motor that was in it was a mock-up motor for what's in it now...I'm the type of guy that wouldn't even bother looking at your poser gasser at a show, because it can be spotted a mile away that it's a joke...as for being scared of a little fabrication, that's not one of the things I've ever been accused of...besides, some of us take our time building something the right way rather than slapping some spray bomb lettering on the door and jacking up the frontend to go spray smoke and oil around town out of the headers on the stock motor...don't forget to send pics of your truck to Ol Skool Rodz, they'll probably think it's the coolest drag truck ever...
Hey Wes.............keep it up...the 'debate' and the project... It is young guys like you that are going to keep this hobby going a few more years...you all have the 'right' idea....Ruiner>>>>> Standard Speedshop......in 'GFY' Minn.......good luck with that....and your outstanding personality..........lets seeeee I believe the word sociopath fits here. "Bluntly, they are incapable of ever conceiving themselves to be wrong....people with defective consciences.......Ultimately sociopaths are interested only in their needs and desires, without concern for the effect of their behavior on others..." ENFO..your comments sums it up for me.......well said!
Wat happended to building what you want. As far as Im concerned the guy is doin it he is cruising around a truck that he is working on. So it might not be "period" or watever that means. So sick of hearing folks bitch but it not bein period, so what if it wasnt built back then that way. Icould only imagine the folks back in the day bitchin at Barris and all those guys doin there thing, you know they are famous for doin what they wanted back then they were pioneers of the hot rodding and customizing. Now to me that is "period". I always leaved me the moto build wat ya got and run what ya brung. Cut the bullshit and build wat you want. If they got something to sat well Fuck Em, theyre not building your car hell most of em have non runners and talk a big talk but when comes down to it they cant walk the walk. STAY TRUE
You guys can bash my '63 F100 gasser pickup if you want. I'll take like a man. We built it with what we had on hand and a couple goodies I picked up in the THREE weeks it took to build. In three weeks, we relocated the front axle and drilled it, built a fresh 390 dual quad for under $1000 including the intake and carbs and a fresh .600 lift cam, built fenderwell headers and full exhaust from scratch, pulled the axle and rebuilt the entire rear including the equaloc, rewired the whole truck, replaced everything in the brake system, installed a hydro clutch system and much more. Is it perfect, no, is it 100% period correct, nope, disc brakes and a 5 spd tremec, is it fun, yep. I'll have it at the Heads Up in May. Hope to see your UNI there as well. Do what you want to do and have fun with it. If you enjoy it, it is cool. It is about having fun and doing what you enjoy.
You may be waiting a long time, Ys will run forever! As for a proper powerplant sbc is not proper in any F-100. This is just my driver, Y-block powered of course. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=28gtzOJdHqg Listen to this Y-block, and it's only 258ci. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Uo5l_Jd36h8 I've also got a Y-Block powered FED underway. You might want to reconsider.
I think about 1.5 more inches i the front and ill be happy with the stance. The headers should be done in the next few weeks.
That is one BAD truck. The first time I saw that on you tube I went Couldn't believe a Y Block was revving like that, now I know.
I like your project that you are putting together, if you enjoy what you are doing keep going you will have lots of fun with it. Jon
Well its funny all of you guys are saying stick with the y block because i have been doing a ton of research on y blocks and im thinking im going to try and build one sick y block. IM gonna build my own intake with a removable top plate so that i can have several different carb set ups. I know Barry Grant does the same thing but i want to build one just for s&gs. Im gonna try and make it one hell of a motor with buying as little parts as possible just do everything myself and see what it gets me. The only reason i was thinking sbc is because i have one sitting here and there super cheap to build but its way to generic for the things i like.
Sounds cool, you can also look for a 312 block to get a few more cubes if you found one cheap enough. I like the Y blocks also. Jon
Don't go with the 312 block they have their own set of problems. Best to find a 312 crank and have the mains ground to fit a 292 block, much tougher. As for cubes you can do all kinds of thing to get CI like offset grind the crank and bore out to use 307 or 283 pistons. 312 rods are 6.25" in lengh and you can get real nice sbc rods that lengh for the 283 pistons. Here is one of my 341 inch ys on a stand. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nwyTHxB25o8
that bitch is sweet....i would love a pic of mine by yours...dotn paint it either. I think that truck it TIT...so I noticed Bruiser still being a dick. hahaha sigh
No kidding, great information to know about, thanks for the heads up, I was not schooled enough in y-blocks. Jon
I had several Y blocks, but have since sold them off. I think Lurch13 here on the HAMB got the last one I had. My long gone '64 F250 had a balanced & blueprinted 292 in it. It could get up & move.... and it was pretty much stock. And nothing sounds as good as a Y block. They have a distinct sound all thier own, like a Harley does.
Trucks!!!???? As race cars!!!???? What will they think of next..... Seriously, I've been refraining from posting on this thread with all my might, but watching it, and, in fact, IMO ( which obviously means jack-shit, to anyone else but me...) Both you, and Ruiner have valid points (although his lack of tact in expressing them is unfortunate, because it makes it ever so easy to write him off, even though I actually tend to agree with his views, in most cases). If you continue to make that truck faster, and faster, by any means necessary, as time goes by, and drive it on the street then really, you are already on EXACTLY the same path as early Gas class racers. Sure, by the time your year truck might have been set up for the strip, Gas classes had become predominant with anything but "street" cars ( or trucks...) but...well....it's 2010 now, isn't it? Good luck, in any case, and enjoy. Keep it tasteful, that's all that REALLY matters.
Not to get off topic but nice trick DirtyThirty, I saw this one last year, thought you might like it.
Yeah, I know the truck! It's real cool...I think it has changed hands a couple times on here, I wonder if it has ever made it down the track?
Oh man im getting pretty reved up about the idea of building a sick y-block. But i think itll be a while til i do so i really need to get my Cadillac build finished. But all the info has got me lookign for parts already. Time to start the y-block stockpile.
I Love Uni's and I think a built 292 would be a very "period" motor for that truck, especially with fenderwell headers. Michael
