  1. Thanks Benny...nah, probably not going to make Viva this year. Too much work to do before Santa Maria...

    Yes.

VVipe those tears avvay, Ivan :D

Yeah, I'm really starting to get fired up...there were so many cars in paint this year! They might have to change the name of the Suede room...haha.

I don't even remember seeing it....asked for pics over on Chevytalk and haven't heard a thing...

I did hear Hetfield's Auburn won the new King of Kustoms award.

    Choptop,
i wouldn't wait too long to get that info from Barris,
he is getting pretty frail, and isn't usually known for giving stuff away.
i met him in the arc audio building, and he was nice and personable.
he gave me an autographed Batmobile pic, and took a pic with me.
i guess he was feeling generous!

    This one!
Well built, but this is not a custom more like a street machine.
Perhaps it should have won an award, but definitely not the Americas Most Beautiful Custom award.
This is not a Custom Car, and should not have been awarded for being one!

im not 100 percent sure, but i dont think thee 55 won,i think it was the **** ugly baby blue 58 lincoln, with a sbc in it,oh but dont forget the billet ****,that won, whats going to kill that show is that gay *** point system, that they use,so john buck if you read this give me a call you got my #,customs were a little light this year,if we are going off of points, why not give it to the wagon that hallenback did 60 style,or james aulburn,or dore's cad,or even the black 36 ford that the kids out of yuba city did,**** that lincoln or red 55,come one its getting to be a joke,i think the judges need to opne there eyes, take off there reeboks and dockers and get a clue, maybe run a goodguys show, maybe la,but school somone on what a custom is,i think i could have closed my eyes a just pointed and got it closer, but thats just my wtf do i know---------Oz

I know WTF gets over used but ......WTF? I didn't even notice that Hot August Nights 55 Chevy.

See Oz, Those 20's are going on my LaSalle for next years show. You won't think I'm kidding next year when I'm a big winner!!!!

Oz, have you ever see your judges sheet for the Sac shows?

Yeah, I agree, I was disappointed when they announced that the '55 won most beautiful custom. Sure, it's a nicely built car and I bet there's a lot of money and work in it, but it's not a custom. It's a street rod/restorod type car. Where's the chop, the body mod's, the channel job a.s.o. This car has nothing that makes it a custom. There were so many other cars at the show that would have deserved most beautiful custom at this show before this one.

I was there for three days in a row, and do not remember seeing that car. I recognize every other car around it, but not that one, that says something to me. If a car is that forgettable how on earth could it deserve any kind of award. Oz thanks for even mentioning the '36 in the same sentence with those other cars/names. As one of those "kids" from Yuba City, recognition like that is better than any award we could have gotten.

  9. I like the cab better :D

Did the '47 ever compete for the WMBC? THAT CAR gets my vote,,,

Me too. If you look at my shots, I had to be standing right next to it several times!

Somehow I missed the black '36, but I did see it in another thread....beautiful car. Did it come in late? I walked the show Thursday night and took my pics early on Friday morning....never saw it.

We were there setting up on Wed. night, ground level building A, right in front of the doors, and at the foot of the stairs. Judging by some of the cars we were surrounded by though, I can understand why you may have not ventured that far.

Found a 4M picture of the Chevy online. Cropped it down to fit here. Maybe one of you photo gurus can sharpen it up to read the mods.

Hey Barn-core, I take it that you're responsible for the black 36 cabriolet?
I heard lots of people say that it was probably their favorite new custom at the show. I was one of them.

Have no doubt that there were lots of body mods to that 55, but that don't make it a custom, just like putting a super rad drivetrain in my car doesn't make it a hot rod.

AMBR and Ridler cars often have completely one-off bodies, but that does not put them in the coachbuilt cl*** along with the Duecenbergs.

Customs need more respect, and that means not giving out the biggest custom awards to just any ol street machine that adds up to the most points.

Not personally responsible, I did have a small hand in it, but I want to make sure to give credit where credit is due. A friend of mine is starting his own shop, Standley Bros. Hot Rods, and this is his first build out of the box. I helped out on some of the body work, and some small misc. stuff. I know he worked really hard making sure the car would make it to the show, and he seems pretty happy with the positive responce we've been getting from it. The car got invited to Fresno, and he's got a couple other builds hopefully making their debut this year, so keep an eye out for him. I know he's on here, but don't know his username, hopefully he'll see this thread, and pop in and say hi. Thanks for the compliment.

This was hands down my favorite at the show. I have never witnessed so many perfect candy jobs in one place in my life.[IMG]

    Oz,

I read your thread and I agree with a lot of the points that you made. The 55 was chosen by the judges who defined the criteria for the award. I am open to looking at changes.

I think the car that won was an incredible points car, and the owner should not be shot down for his entry. Sacramento customs are important and with the imput we recieve we strive to make it better.

    All the best
