I didn't realize that Don Ricci had a brother on the HAMB. Cool.

A couple of years ago I built the mounts for the following collection of Halifax ( Lancaster ) bomber nose art that are now on display at the new Canadian War Museum in Ottawa. This collection comprises skins of aircraft that were destined for scrap, that someone with some foresite cut away from the airframes before their demolition.

This is my favourite of the bunch

Sorry I think I got this pic from hamb but I was not sure what sqaudron or plane it represented, I think this is one of the coolest nose art bombs I have ever seen and am planning to use it on my ride, just wanted to make sure proper credit is given for the nose art.

    WOW!!!!Great thread,keep it coming!

  13. What a great thread! My Dad served in WW2,and when stationed in England before D-Day,found a little time to see a friend in the Air Corps. and talked about the artwork seen there. Said that there were some truly talented artists with incredible work, considering the tools they had to work with.

The tattoo on my left arm is from a late 1990's calendar of nose art-the "Excalibur" work is the subject-and I've seen where the idea came from. The original was a painting by the fantasy painter Boris Vallejo, modified a bit by the painter of the Excalibur work. Very cool artwork, done by a very talented woman(thanks,Leah!),and gets a lot of compliments-especially from women!

Very cool. That display is very well done and was my favourite when I visited the museum. I made a point of photographing each one.

    Thanks for posting the backstory!

Some day I'll have a car worthy of nose art. I even have a name picked out.

    Some day...

    You're welcome.

Flew in a B-17 once, it was a hot summer day but we got about 10,000 feet and it was freezing! Can't imagine those 19-21 year old boys doin it at 35,000 feet in the dead of winter. Thanks to all who gave all for our freedom!!!!

I first met FM in August of 92 after hurricane Andrew had had its way with her at Tamiami. The cockpit had already been separated from the fuselage
and set up for display when Andrew knocked her over onto a P-35. She
has since been patched up and is displayed at Fantasy Of Flight in
Polk City, Fl. Fear not though,Kermit Weeks has enough spares to bring
her back to flying condition at some time in the future.

When I was a kid we visited the US Air Force Museum in Dayton OH. Two huge hangars full of planes and I had a blast. When I painted a model of this one my mom was not impressed:

She didn't buy the historical accuracy bit...
