  1. OK fellas, this is one of those what would you do if questions. I am not in any way in this position I just want to know what you think and why?
No drama please this is just a chance to make a statement that is of no real value other than to say who you are.

Let's suppose that you where in the middle of building an oddball car like say a mid-fifties Studebaker coupe. You are not burnt out on the build and having a good time. Then right out of the clear blue sky someone comes up and offers to trade you say a late thirties Ford coupe. It is in about the same basic shape and close to the same stage of the build as your Stude. Both builds are the same style of build, lets say just your basic mechanics coupe.

Would you go for it and why? What is your perspective?

  2. if you are not bored with the stude, then keep going. unless you are looking to build-to-sell. then the ford coupe sells much better than the stude.
i have not finished the last 4 cars that i have done because i traded them out before i finished them. same kind of situation as you. not really looking, then something comes along. but now i only trade for something that i really want.

the car i am going to start building next is an oddball, but what i want. guess it comes down to what you like and your intent when you are finished with it.

The coupe will take a bunch more work than the Stude, to get it on the road.

The Stude is different, you'll stand out from the crowd.

I would trade but I prefer A's over mid fifties Studes. Should be based on your likes and dislikes and your primary goal. If you want a mid fifties Stude then why would you trade, if you want an A then why wouldn't ya?

Yes I would. But I'm a ford guy when it comes to vintage tin.

  7. If you're really undecided, write a list of positives/negatives about each build. The more convincing list wins out.

I would absolutely trade, I think the 35-40 Fords are some of the best looking cars ever made.

Well which do you want to own? Personally I dig my 50's ride and am adding a 30's ride to the stable. Well whenever I get around to building the damn thing.

Heat Miser hit the nail on the head. Which one do you see yourself in when close your eyes and dream of runnin' down the road. For me, it would be a `36 3-window coupe but my brother would definitely be in that `53 Stude. So, go with whatever shows up on the back side of your eye lids and lose the poll? What do us goobers know about you???

I would trade in a heartbeat for a more desirable car. Eventually, down the road, it would be easier to sell.

I'd trade for a couple reasons, first the ford would be a much easier build and for less effort you'll get a nicer finished product. Second if you sink 100K in a fifties studebaker it'll still be a studebaker - unless you take it to bonneville and whack a record or two with it. Then it'll be a fast studebaker.
    I voted to trade.

Well Im kind of a "finish what you started type of guy"...so in that vein ,,finish what you started.

im not into Studes of the 50's, so my reply would really muck up your survey..

I would keep the 30's ford (because thats what i would be working on..and pass up the 50's stude)..see i told you i would mess it all up..sorry

so in my finish what you started logic..No dont do it, but on the other hand..its a 30's ford...so I would be getting it..
Hey dont confuse me with logic ,, dammit:D

See..you just have to do whats right for you..

I'm also one that always looks at things from the investment perspective. As described, I'd jump on the Ford in a heartbeat.

  19. I would trade in a heartbeat.

on a side note,,my interest in cars has never been motivated by what I can get out of it when time comes to sale.

But I would think the Ford coupe would be worth more in the long run. HRP

I'd keep the oddball. I myself like to be different than everyone else. Having an oddball that is built equal in quality to a common ride always seems to get more attention. A lot of people like to see different styles...and an oddball usually fills that bill!!

    "a late thirties Ford coupe".

Sounds like a no-brainer to me.

You started on a Stude...shows individuality.

What does a Ford coop say: You wanna be just like all the other Ford coop owners out there...???

Yep, it's a no-brainer to me as well...personally, I'd prefer to be an individual in a follow-me world...

I've always wanted a '54 Comander Coupe with a 392 Hemi in it..

but then I've often thought of a '39 Deluxe with a Hemi in it too...

    tough call..

    I'd stick with the Stude

Trade it... if it ever comes down to it and you NEED to sell the 30's coupe would be easier to unload and a higher resale value...

PLUS THEY'RE JUST DAMN GOOD LOOKING!!!
