A couple of years ago I bought this old Glen L, Cracker Box boat. It was in fair shape, but it needed a new deck so over this last winter, I hired some help and got it restored. It has a 40 flathead, Paragon in/out transmission. Its a plywood boat, the deck is birch, held down with bronze ring nails. Cracker Boxes were a two man racing class, popular inthe late 40's. The old photo is out of Hop Up magazine Oct. 1951, it's not this boat, but gives you a good idea what cracker box racing was all about- Mostly skipping and flipping.<p>
Sweet, I remember when they used to run at Marine Stadium in Long Beach. I used to work the hot dog stands during the boat races. Those were some fun times.
Love it! I love the fact that you didn't over do it or over restore it............ Trying to get this one from an acquaintance............
That's an awesome boat, seret!! Thanks for sharing it. Give it up, Lon...you already have toooo many projects!
the stock water pumps are blocked off. the pick up from under the boat, goes threw the oilpan, to the water pump, splits, goes to the back of block. out the block into the exhaust, out the exhaust into the block out of the heads back into the exhaust. I think.
Glen-L boats is still in business in Bellflower Ca they make and sell prints for do-it yourself builders rvs and boats
One of those would be awesome! I live about a 1/2 mile from a good size lake, where I have most of my life, always liked boats and cars but haven't had the opportunity to own a true V8 powerboat yet, lots of 60mph capable outboards though. That behind the gasser F100 I'm building would look too sweet backing down the ramp to unload.
can i buy it back from you for the same price you sold it to me and then back to you? man thats kinda confusing.
Here's one with a Y-block, don't mind the music. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2u9_55_2E58 Watch 2:00 into it, engine sounds!

Very SWEET! The flat motor V8 is perfect! The rest of the boat - all the wood work and particularly, the aluminum dash are absolute works of art! Very classy and well done! Mart3406 =============================
