It was just a car in those days, albeit a funny-looking one with a wing over the trunk and a pointy nose.

Turnpike Cruiser skirts, a C-kit, and a tail-down stance. Perfect.

Yep. Vanport - which was destroyed in the flood of 1948. On that land today sits Portland International Raceway. If you compare the pictures above to this one, you can clearly see the slough and grove of trees along Victory Blvd. which now make up the backstretch.

  8. Not so old... but quite a different and tragic story!

This is a photo of a couple from California with their pet chimp... later in life the City forced them to give the chimp up to a rescue... one day the couple visited their chimp and brought him a Banana cake for his birthday and the other chimps in the facility got jealous and ripped the nose and testicles from the man (Shown driving the car)!

  13. My wife's Grandfather in the Pacific... he was a ground pounding platoon leader and just wanted to sit in the Air Cobra after their unit coordinated strafing the enemy machine gun nests.

He never talked about the war with his family... however they overheard him talking to me from the kitchen and listened to our conversation from the next room in total disbelief!

Shortly after we moved him to a limited care facility and found letters from the President and Army Generals for earning medals for some serious action where he saved 10 men under enemy machine gun fire.

President Clinton awarded the medals to him and he passed away a few months later! View attachment 911968

That is touching. I wonder how many lying blowhards that true hero had to listen to in his lifetime.

Tell your wife her grandfather sounds like one hell of a real man...God love him.
