The #1 thing I find in old cars I bring home are old church keys... I guess only the older guys might even know what a church key is?! I havent found anyone around here that knows what they are. Have many of you heard of a church key??

A few other cool things I found:
-I have found a gallon glass Jug of Coke syrup looking like from the 1940's in a 1935 3 window coupe body.
-A 1930's campaign button for Franklin Rooselvelt in a 1936 Ford truck
-An old steel 'Farm Bureau' road signs looking like from the '50's or 60's in a 1934 Ford PU
-A set of 4 1960's Anson torque thrust wheels in a locked '61 Impala trunk.. (8 1/2" and 6"... Going on my 66 Chevelle SS)
-Lots of old bottles, cans and tools
....Oh Yeah, the actual #1 find are angry yellow jackets!

They don't appreciate smart a$$ FNG's however. Oh by the way, there is already a thread out there on things found in cars. You might do a search for it.

Church keys were for opening the solid top beer cans, still have a couple. One end was pointed and sharp, the other end had a hook for opening bottles.

Those aren't Church Keys, those are bottle openers. Church keys open beer cans before pop tops came on the scene.

I dont think it is about the post at all. There seems to be members who love to pounce on a guy with FNG next to their name. I have seen similar threads on the same day, but 'old schoolers' seem to have no problems. Oh well... life is hard here for us know nothins!

Here's mine. This must be a delux model, opens bottles and cans. Also has a very cool catalin plastic handle.

I agree 100%. There isn't much that hasn't been talked about here. A search will bring up just about any subject there is. A new thread generates new opinions and ideas. Nearly every new post brings something new to light.

I wonder if I still have one in a drawer in the kitchen? It is made from round stock and formed to fit over the cap on a soda bottle or older style beer bottle before twist tops.

I found a pot pipe, boxes of old porn magazines, refrigerator magnets, casino ashtrays, some poetry about porn, old boots, NOS electrolux vacuum parts and old clothes with a shit load of queen bee's in the trunk of a 56 Buick I hauled home from a junk yard.

  24. Before pop tops and twist off caps... how many remember getting a box of beer with your buddies and no one had an opener... so creative ways were developed to open those brews. The worst I witnessed was a fellow using his eye socket to pop the cap off a bottle.... the more one drank the more creative (?) and unsafe methods came about...

a search on church key brings up 121 threads none are about church keys, his original post is about church keys and if anyone knew what they were. he mentioned some other things found but his only question was if anyone knew what a church key was.... luckily some folks did stay on topic and posted about church keys, so unless you can find that church key thread ease up on the "do a search" responses

back to the topic at hand, i just got a burgermeister church key the other day, haven't figured out where i'll be using it yet though

I knock them off on the rear bumper. Just like that bitchin' babe did for Toad in More American Graffiti. Pretty fucking traditional.

On the older VW Bus, the engine door and the fuel door took a square drive to open them. The key to open them was often refered to as a "church key". Had nothing to do with cans or bottles:).
