Hey Rich, I wanted to give you a heads up that some Ebay doofus is printing and reselling your posted stuff as his own, saying he bought them from Craigs List. Here is the link http://cgi.ebay.com/lot-of-dirt-mod...emQQptZUS_Racing_Fan_Shop?hash=item3caaa6e9dc

    and the screen shot . . .

His name is Scott Seward and he lives in Harpursville. I am not defending him, only letting you know that he purchased a lot of Lancaster photos from me and they are his to do whatever he wants with them. The dirt tracks, and the other stuff -- I don't know. I know he also had a lot of Fred Smith stuff from Shangri-La and Pocono. He lost his job, can't find another and like many others, he has to sell his treasures to pay some bills.

That's sad -- he was one of my L.I. favorites. May he rest in peace.

DR.John, thanks for the info, I know the economy sucks but to be a low life and pilfer peoples photos off the thread, and sell them as his without the courtesy of asking for my okay, in my book is pretty low If he purchased them from me I would'nt have a problem with any of it, instead he lifted them off this thread. If he contacted me and told me his story I probably would've said no problem to help him out, I also contacted ebay and told them they were taken without permission,so all I can say is Thanks to the Scott Sewards out there I will not post the shots I found and just put them back in the box and back in the spot I found them in the cellar "THANKS SCOTT" ..... Hey MrExcite,

That guy was buying my brothers photo's cropping them and then reselling them. When I questioned where he got them, he told me from a friend. it was the second time he did it.

Don't hold your breath with eBay -- if they ever get back to you, they'll probably ask you to prove you are the owner/shooter.

A few years back I had a big problem with one guy buying a lot of photos from me and then he posted them at high resolution on a website and everyone was lifting them for free. An attorney chasing them all will cost you LOTS more than what you'd ever make by winning cases.

Heck, some people even repost my pics on THIS site! LOL

  15. R.I.P Artie, he was also a great rod builder. There's the Bullfather there in the Replica photo, black Tee shirt next to the tent. McBetts brought the car up from NC where they built it and I think they were doing some nostalgia racing. This was at an Old timers meet about 5 years ago?

Before I posted to Rich what I saw going down on Ebay, I paused and said to myself "this is probably gonna shut off the flow of some really great pics from my beloved Reading Fairgrounds", but you know what, Rich earned the right to know, and I don't regret letting him know. If there is a market for those pics, he should be the one to sell them, not SSwhatever scumbag on Ebay.

I hope you guys don't hold me responsible for the loss of these great photos. Rich deserves our thanks for posting them, and hopefully he can get some satisfaction from Ebay and resore order to his and his fathers work.

Thanks again Rich for the pics, they are great memories and I've enjoyed them very much !!

Rads32 If you decide to post those picture I would like to see the ones from Nazerath. I drag race myself but I would go to Nazerath every sunday night and help out with the Randy Box #2 Falcone. I still hang out with him.

Artie passed away yesterday (March 1st) at his home in Holbrook, Long Island.

In his years of racing, he was an inspirational figure to me and a long time friend of my Dad's and my family.
The race cars that he, my Dad and many others came together to build in his garage over those years were truly awesome, including the modifieds through the 60's and 70's, the latemodel in the 80's, the latemodel for Art Jr. and Legends cars in the 90's... they all were true works of art and I was fortunate to be a part of what made those cars, and Artie, legendary.

Details of his arrangements are not made yet, and I'll post them up here as soon as they are.

If anyone has pictures of Artie and his race cars, please post them up.
One in particular is a car that was wrecked early in a season in the late 70's, termed the 'firey fourteen', a Pinto bodied red modified with flamed gold numbers. The most impressively built modified I'd ever seen.
My Dad has one picture of it in his garage just before it was completed but I was hoping more would surface here.

Thanks to Artie for some memories in racing I'll never forget.

    Respectfully,
    Wayne Hubbs

eBay's toll-free number is (800) 717-3229 ('til 9 p.m. Pacific) -- got it from them last year -- perhaps it still works.

You might want to Photoshop your name or some other ID in a strategic spot (where it can't be removed or colored back in) on the photo so that others may look at them but the downloaders/resellers/copiers can't "steal" them...

I will admit that I have saved more than a few pics from this thread.
I just could not stand to lose some of my heroes from my childhood.
But to try to make a profit of someone else's work is unimaginable.
I also want to show them to my dad the next time I'm back in the US.
All I can say is thank you all for posting some of the greatest pictures I've ever had the pleasure to see on the Internet.

I don't condone, people stealing photos off the internet, or even those who copy photos they purchased and sell those. Worse yet are those who remove the copyright info (Given the state of our society, all the government would do is probably try to collect taxes from those selling the pictures). Whenever anything if put on a public server (example Tiger Woods voicmails) there is no privacy.

Talking specifically about pictures of these early modifieds (or any early racing pictures), locking the pictures away doesn't do anyone any good. Personally I wish there were books just like Dr. John's for each track that ran modifieds (if you don't have it I recommend it). But there isn't, the only way for people to be able to remember these cars and times (or finally witness them) is by the sharing of photos and stories. I doubt anyone selling photos is going to make that much money (if they do compile them into a book, with out proper credit the publisher is the deep pocket to go after, usually they want proper credit given to photos). If you add the credits to your photos stick them right in the middle, so its a bit harder to remove.

Anyway please post your photos, because that's the only way to preserve the legacy and hopefully inspire some younger people to keep the cars/times alive.

Thanks again, I got a email from him today, saying he bought them on craiglist and that he closed all of the sales. MR Exite if any one gave you any grief about giving me that info I'm truly and deeply sorry for any hassles you might have received .... Thanks Again, Rich!

  25. At the risk of being controversial,HA!, this thing with the photos bothers me. I don't like anyone SELLING photos they didn't take. It also ticks me off when someone puts their name across a photo and claims it when it's not theirs to claim. But, on the other hand, what gave the photographers the right to take the pics of these guys cars??Then make a profit off of selling those pics without sharing with the car owner/driver?
Best example I ever had was going to the Woods Brothers facility, carting my copier and paper. A clerk there said no way, these photos are copyrighted, etc.etc., I also had my collection from several old drivers that were way-generous in letting me borrow, copy, then return theirs. Glen Woods comes out, sees a couple of original photos I had from the Jim Garlick's collection and wants me to make him copies. In return, he said ,copy anything in here you want,(then sent me in the mail a huge box of originals telling me just to send them back when I was finished. I did, made him his copies and that was that. Kerry Viar

You could not have said it any better! Not to mention all the great Hot rods, and custom work he and his shop did over the years. As you stated, the cars that he put on the track where top shelf! I never saw in all the years, a car ever hit the track that was not in perfect condition. If you knew Artie, There was no "junk" going on the track.

I will second this. I know that there was an issue with people taking pictures off of Three Wide's site and reselling them. He now requires that the person posting the pic reference the photographer, who provided it, and the website name on the posted pic, along with embedding something somewhere on the car itself (example: 3W brand tires) so that they are at least sourced prior to posting.
