A couple of months back my Dad's oldest brother passed away. Uncle Bob was a lifelong Hot Rodder as all five of the brothers were/are. My Dad's side of the family comes from Kentucky/Ohio and moved to Southern California in the early '50's. My Aunt sent a box of old pictures to me that I've scanned to post here, all the pictures are either from my Dad's old albums or from my Uncle Bob's collection. Theres some really cool stuff and I've got quite a few pictures to post so keep checking back. Uncle Bob with a Roadster model, Dayton, Ohio 1949:
That's great but sad to hear about your Uncle. It's really cool that you came from a long line of dedication Hot Rodders and I'm sure as this progresses we'll be able to see in side of that history that your family created through out the years. They really don't make toys that damn cool anymore! Great photo!
My Uncle Bob's first car, '33? Chevy Roadster, Dayton, Ohio 1946. My Uncle let a friend drive the car........he ran it into a fence and left it in a ditch. The car had to be towed home for repairs.
My Grandfather's '39 Mercury, Kentucky, 1947. Written on the back of the photograph: "Washing the car in Leatherwood Creek"
Uncle Bob's '40 Deluxe. Dayton, Ohio 1950. I tried to enlarge the photo to I.D. the decals in the quarter window but it was too fuzzy.
Williams Arizona, Summer 1952 on the way to California. None of the family's cars appear in the picture, it was taken because my Grandfather shared the same name as the Motel.
That's some cool stuff! I'll have to dig up and scan the picture of my uncle's '40 Ford deluxe convertible that he rolled...
Uncle Bob's Chopped/Channelled '32. Bell Gardens, California 1953. After this was sold off my Dad and Grandfather saw it a a used car dealer one day. The salesman told my Grandpa he could take it since it was still in his name. My dad who was about 13 at the time begged him but Grandpa refused. Considering how tight my Grandpa was with money this is almost impossible to believe. I'm surprised he didnt at least take it to sell it off. I've heard about this car for years but never saw pictures until my Aunt sent me these:
Some of these are a little out of order year wise. Some of the family moved back to Ohio in the mid '50's. Uncle Charlie's '51 with an Olds grill. Dayton, Ohio 1955.
