I have 2 acres in tx in the middle of no where the county came by and said i needed to build a fence around my place. I have around 20 + cars. I thought when you own a place it was your i guess not

  2. At least they didn't say get rid of your cars. Find a garage door company and go pick up their old garage doors. pull all the trim off them so they all look the same, paint them all tan, and you are done.

Put up a chain link fence. So they still have to look at your stuff.

2 acres isn't alot and unless it's heavly wooded you can see from end to end. Your cars have been seen by someone and that someone complained is my guess.

My friend lived in a community where everyone had to have a wooden-slat picket type fence..well, My friend left his unpainted. The neighborhood group complained as it states in their charter the fence must be painted. .we found the loophole, we got every can of paint we could find and painted each picket a different shocking color..pissed 'em off. but it was in compliance.

We had the same trouble here in WI. Complaints usually are the cause. Unlicensed cars get the stink eye from the law.

***uming you are in/around Denton TX you have just crossed into the Lady Bird Johnson Texas Beautification Act of about 1967 or so. If you're a native you can't say you haven't heard of it. Do the fence and next time...hide the cars behind the trees. It could get worse.

By the way, I think you'll find that fence means a sight barrier not a Cyclone or Hurricane chain-link fence unless you want to feed those Venetian blinds strips though a jillion linear feet of wire fence.

You better feel lucky all they want you to do is build a damn fence. I put a six foot high cedar board fence all the way around my yard just for my own piece of mind. I even put the "pretty side" out to placate my neighbors. Used 6" pipe and lots concrete for the gate posts and used 2" chain link fence gates without the chain link for gates.

A few days ago one of my neighbors told me one of the other neighbors had had a "conversation with some "s****per" types that had come around looking for "donations". A couple of days later he lost a bunch of radiators and other things.

Bottom line is you're a little safer with your stuff hidden behind a fence anyway and the county is probably doing you a favor.

Run for a seat on the county board and make everyone elses life miserable!

Zoning and laws like this are like curing herpes with cancer.

Lucky they just want a fence, out here the have been taking pic's not sure if satellite or plane, anything over three unregistered vehicals and you need to get them gone or stored inside a garage. Most cases that I'v heard of involve a non vehical enthusiast living in the area.

be very careful what you do next!!! had the same thing happen to me, by my town zoning office. so i applied for a fence permit and i was told there is no "fence permit" just put a fence to be in compliance... i installed the fence (they told me i must have) and they promptly told me i must remove the non compliant fence immediatly or subject to more fines for each day it is still there... i found out my town is known for this type of thing... hope it works out better for you...

Ya might could put a $.30 for sale sign on each car and when anyone asks a price say $45,000 or something crazy. Sometimes the man will leave you alone if they see an effort being made?

What you might think of doing is to build a fenced in area for the car. Not fence in the whole 2 acres...just big enough to hide the cars....or do a Cadillac ranch...and make the cars into a fence.:) If your place is cluttered up a little clean up might go along ways too.

You might want to think about thinning the heard also...do you need/want all of them? Not saying you need to but sometimes I see myself having too much stuff.

I can't do machine work, so when I need machine work, I go to a machinist.

I suggest you go to a lawyer.

Same county **** in Florida, law says if you have a vehicle in yard it must be tagged,or you can go to courthouse and give them $100 and get a restore certifcate.Anything you do to your property as long as it doesn"t cost over $500 you do not need a permit.put up the fence like the man said and save trouble later and oh yeah, they don"t tell you your property taxes go up because you added a fence which raises property value. You might have the land in your name but I would be willing to bet someone else owns the mineral rights.

This is the correct advice for you. I also own 2 acreages with about 500 cars altogether. You need to be aware of what your county zoning ordinances are. I was wise enough to apply for, and get, zoning permits to store and work on as many cars as I could dream of owning. At the time, I had about 15. Never thought I would own hundreds but, it is best to plan ahead and be preppared.

Normally, if you are in violation with a county ordinance, they will work with you as long as you do not be a **** or ignore them.
Go to your counties web site and look up zoning/permit ordinances in your area. Look over your violation. Call or visit the county agent/inspector.
They should be able to give you extended period of time to put up that much fence. You may also want to condense your collection into a smaller area of your acreage so you have less to fence as it is expensive and subject to upkeep due to winds and storms.
    Best to you.

Amen. Around here no one really cares what you do until you piss some one off. If it's reported the T-ship has to respond. A few years ago "someone" got a hard on and turned someone else in for a junk car. That person retaliated by turning someone else in, so on and so on. It took all summer for it to go away.

Hi, Had the same problem with the city I live in (SoCal). I made them happy by gargage doors on three sides. The fourth is chain link, As DesertRatRodder says, if they are out of sight they are happy. Bought a pallet of railroad ties and about 10-12 doors. The ties go in the ground about 2 1/2 ft. Then used lag bolts to tie doors to the ties. Removed the trim and painted tan.

    Problem solved !

I wonder if you could build a fence out of a bunch of early 80s' gm fullsize hoods

  29. Just don't be a **** ....
    I like it

    Proceed carefully ....

Just about everything is online nowadays ;)

Find out exactly what zoning law or ordinance you
    are in violation of (purportedly)

Find out what exact geographical area the applicable
    zoning law or ordinance covers

Get an instant camera, take a few hours & go photograph
other properties in that geographical area with similar offending displays
    without including
any reference points that can distinguish those properties

Make (2) cheap sets - go into the office where the notice came from and give them a set .......

Tell them you will be glad to comply if and when the owners
of the do***ented anonymous properties also comply
