Might aswell post my car too, I know it's a bit modern but you guys may like the valve covers...

That's just a mocked-up block though, it's getting a 347 with 185cc heads, a roller cam and a single 4 barrel setup, only because Boss 302 is a little out of the price range. Gonna paint the block and heads dark Ford engine blue (as seen in the pic) to keep it looking period correct.

BTW, nice cars guys keep them comming...Ford in a Ford is the only way to go (I like to see Fords in other cars too though)

The Cleveland is not a "big block".

    Cylinder centers same as 351W, 302, 289, 260 & 221.

Deck height is shorter than the 351W.

Length of block is same as 302, excepting cast-in timing cover.

Same bell housing and engine mount bolt patterns as 302.

    Same head bolt pattern as 302, 289, 260, 221 and 351W.

Weight of basic engine subassembly is very similar to 351W (457 vs. 448)
    http://58custom.wave.prohosting.com/

The only part shared with any of the larger Ford engine families is the dizz (same as 460) but a dizz does not a "big block" make.

The 351 Cleveland is a small, compact engine design. It was the chronically incurious and pooly informed magazines pushing Chevy products and downplaying the HP potential of the Cleveland that started the "big block" Cleveland myth. Of course it beat your 350, it's a "big block". Unfair! (poutrage)

Ford engines are divided up into named families, not into the Chevy-centric dichotomy of "big block, small block".

Ford engines belong in Fords, Hemis in Dodge/Chrysler/Plymouth and chevys are good for bowties or boat ancors!! LOL!!! there is nothing wrong with a SBC as long as you keep in a chev or some other off brand! All my Fords run Ford mills!

NICE setup. I am going to put a 400 in my 53 F100 Street Rod truck. I built a single 4 bbl tunnel ram intake for my late model stock car back in 1980-81, and will be using that along with the special heads I built up for it. I have detuned the engine with a new truck block, deep dish pistons and a milder cam than what I ran in the stock car. I also am only using a Holley 750 Double pumper instead of the 800 Double pumper I used back then.

ONLY way to fly. I ALMOST built a 32 Chev sedan a few years ago with a Ford 351, but changed my mind as it would STILL be a Chuvorlevit in my mind. and would have taken at least two years to build. So back to working on Fords.

THIS is the first time I have heard of a 351 Cleveland called a BIG block. I have heard of the 400 "Cleveland" called a medium block, but THAT is not a big block either. They are all part of the 335 engine family. The 400 and 351 share the same distributors, timing chains, heads, etc..

The 400 shares it rear bolt pattern for the tranny bellhousing with the BIG block 460, but that is about it.

I have found the 400 has gobs more torque than the 351 Cleveland in properly built trim. THAT is what I am building again. Only weighs slightly more than the 351 Cleveland. Less than 30 pounds more.

My brother has a flathead / 4-speed in his '51 F-1, soon to run a 302 / AOD, my girl's '59 Country Sedan runs the original 332 / Cruise-O-Matic, and my little sister has a 352 / C6 in her '66 Galaxie 500. Got a small block Chevy myself, but it's the original 265 in that '55 pickup over to the left.
