I think the OP wrote his post just fine. There is nothing wrong with stream-of- consciousness writing when you are pissed; that's how you are feeling. The next two guys should read "Eats Shoots and Leaves" and figure that out.

The OP got screwed and,as far as I can tell, still doesn't have his real parts back. Sadly, this is just another HAMB chrome shop, body shop, painter post. One of probably thousands. What's with these guys? Are they so desperate for business that they will knowingly underestimate the time it will take them to do the job? Do they really not have a clue? Or do they just figure the customers options are limited and once they have the stuff they can treat the customer as they feel? I do not understand this business model.

The lesson to HAMBers here is clear. Check out the reputation of the shop you are planning to use. Get a written estimate stating specifically what you are leaving, what's supposed to be done and when it is supposed to be done. Take pictures of your stuff as you are dropping it off. If a shop can't handle something as simple as customer service,I certainly wouldn't leave valuable parts with them. The days of the crusty, but great "artist" are/should be long dead. Good luck.

I think he meant "paragraph" not "sentence". And,clearly, he doesn't read very much or pay much attention to content, but that's just OT stuff.

  4. Advance plating will get my work from now on,,they did a great job but missed my delivery date by a couple of months,,i wasn't in a push but I took much longer than I was told.

It final cost about what they estimated it to be.

This IS the place for "whining" about it. Anybody else in that area that is looking for plating will think twice about using that place. This IS the kind of feedback we need to hear! We need to know about the good AND BAD businesses so other Ham'ers don't get the same treatment down the road.

Sometimes people have a hard time getting shit done. You know when people keep on calling and bugging them about shit all day long?
Hard to say what really happened when we only hear one side of the story.
I'll get out of here now.

  8. That's not wining. He was giving a heads up to other people in the area, and I appreciate it. The post was long, but it was a long story.

Is Bumper-Boyz doing their chroming? Opps, I mean "Bummer-Boyz".
Maybe they should change their name to "Inferior Chrome." Hope it all works out for you. Thanks for the info.

They are the best in my opinion. Excellent chroming, lifetime guarantee on the chrome. In other words, pay for chroming the piece ONCE and IF anything ever happens and it doesn't look as good as it once did send it back to them and they will redo it at no charge. Of all the pieces that they have done for me and my pops, I only sent back one piece after a couple of years. I could see some very faint shadowing in one of my tail light bezels under certain lighting. I called them up, snet it back and they redid it, absolutely awesome. Their pieces look like jewelry. Yep, you might pay alittle more then the average place BUT you certainly get what you pay for in the world of chrome plating.

Thanks for the heads up, I was gonna eventually use these guys when I got to the chroming stage of my build.

  12. Your post will probably help other Hamber's out; since we now know these guys are not the shop to use. I have lost parts and it sucks. The only thing worse than one of your parts lost by a vendor, is when a customer's part gets lost by a vendor. I had a chrome shop "misplace" an emblem for a 1969 lamborghini we were working on. It was a customers, and we never saw the emblem again. This created a delay for the client, and was not a good experience for anyone involved. Thanks for the heads up about this shop. As many have said already it could be a lot worse. I hope you get your money and bumper back.

Used Advanced and was super pleased. On time and plating was flawless. If you want it done right this is the place to go. JMHO.

Nope, sentence is what he meant. There is two periods in the entire rant, so it's really two sentences.

As fair as chroming, yep my bumper cost a heap, took 3 months (said it was going to be 2 weeks), and they pretty much lied every time I talked to them. I do feel lucky that I got back my own bumpers though.

    VERY WELL SAID!
I do work and restore many jobs in a year, which makes it seem that much more the fact that some people that are in business DO NOT NEED TO BE IN BUSINESS!
I have learned my lesson on many shops and vendors here on the HAMB.
ADVANCED in Nashville for chroming, i have had parts for 5 yes 5 cars there at one time, NEVER a problem.

  17. The guy is IN HOUSTON. He can walk into another of the best shops in the country which is Speed and Sport on the SE side of the city. They're not cheap and no good plating shop is. They communicate right. They are very close or on time to fulfilling the time they quote. They never lost a part for me. I live 200 miles away and drive my parts in to them so we can discuss them and have them ship them out to me.

So tell me why he should ship bumpers several states away and incur that extra cost when he can drop them off and pick them up IN HOUSTON?

I couldn't find anything on their site regarding a lifetime warranty. Max I saw was one year. You might be grandfathered in on an earlier lifetime warranty that they had, but it appears that's not what they offer now.

Yep, I have to agree. Businesses that really take care of their customers (us) and do what they say they when they say they will need our support and the ones who don't take care of their customers or tend to do poor quality work need to be noted so someone else doesn't get burned.

Kyle Council - Sorry to hear the bad luck with the chrome shop you used. Here a shop in California that does great work at fair prices, you'll have shipping coats but the work will be great.

Since the early 70s I haven't heard of any chrome shop in Houston that didn't have a crowd of haters of them...often very big crowds. It seems to be a lucky day kind of situation with delivery and quality in Houston.

Thanks for posting your rant, I've subscribed to this thread as reference material for my build. Don't mind the grammar nazi's, there's at least 1 in every crowd.

Dude, keep on them to get your stuff back. I'd call them everyday and stop by a couple times a week.

When I lived in SoCal, I went to a "good" chrome shop in La Habra can't remember the name. Took my 62 nova grill, headlight rings and front bumper to get redone. Same story - supposed to be done in two weeks. I go back in 3 weeks, not done. 6 weeks, not done. 9 weeks I go in and tell them I want my stuff back. The guy goes into the back for about 40 minutes and comes back and says they sold my stuff and points to a sign that says they reserve the right to if you leave your items for 60 days or longer. After the first two weeks, I should have asked for my stuff back. One of those lessons learned.

There should no apostrophe in nazis, there should never be one in plurals.

Try Spacecoast Plating in Melbourne, Florida, they rule.
