is there a shorter filter for the 302 ford.the normal filter is alittle to long for my frame swap.(s10 in 53 ford car). its too close to the steering shaft. anyone have an option other than moving the filter.

    Yep .

Z89A are what they are called down here..about 1 1/2" shorter than stock, maybe a little smaller diameter too.

I like Wix but use Fram numbers for conversation. The PH43 is shorter than the PH8A, shorter still is the PH16. The Wix 51553 is 2" long. Reportedly the Wix 51311 is a little longer than the 51553. One of these will do you. check for the Wix equivelent of the Frams.

I think I used a filter for a 2.2 Chrysler on my Lotus which used a Ford type filter for a short filter. Use care because the Ford filter had an internal bypass if the filter became clogged and the Chrysler didn't. Or something like that.

If the shorter filter does not work, there is a filter adaptor that turns the filter 90 degrees, Ford Racing and others have them.

I use the PH3614 on my 302. Works great in a low clearance application.

Yeah, I had to go with a remote, or find a 2-inch-tall filter. Otherwise it would hit the frame. Kit not cheap but has thick full pressure lines, etc. It works fine; not so good looking but you could dress it up a bit if you want to.

  20. I had to go remote, and would recommend against it, if it can be avoided. It's at least 5 more places you can leak oil from, and just makes for a less tidy engine compartment.

You could also get one of these adapters from Ford. I think Speedway sells them to.

I actually am using a short filter on mine instead of the adapter for that reason, except right now I'm using a fram.

You have received a lot of info. Here is some more. Check out NAPA GOLD 1335. My car has a 302 and the filter is close to Vega box.

  29. I use a NAPA 1348 for my 302 to clear the Vega steering box
