Projects ~~My new wheels!!!!!~~'38 Pick-up!!!

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Bad Bob, Mar 9, 2010.

  1. They say when one door closes, another one opens. Well....another one opened for me today. JustplainJ and I saw this Pick-up at Pomona on Sunday and fell in love with it!!! I've always liked old trucks and have been trying to buy one from a neighbor for 12 years...NO LUCK! This one had "$18k or trade",on it. So I asked the guy,"what would you want in trade?". He said ,what do you got? So I pointed out the truck to him,and he said he was just looking at it. He snapped a pic with his phone and sent it to his girlfriend, and she liked it!
He called me last night and said he would drive out to my house from Magic Mountain area!!!!! FUCK...that's like 100 miles from my house! I said...whatever dude, haha!
Here's the guy and his buddy getting ready to head home(bet they're still driving,HAHAHA!)

and there she goes...."Goodbye Roadtoad..." He said something about painting it white to match his "RATROD PICK-UP",OH FUCK!!!!!! I about shit my pants! I told him to send me a pic when he's done. I'll post it if he sends me one. Oh well...you just have to look away and move on...

It had a Banjo steering wheel on it,but he wanted to keep it. So I put the wheel I bought from Cruzr on it. I'm already writing down my plans for it...

  5. It's all stock except for the 283 Fuelie motor! Edelbrock manifold and carb.
    '39 Trans
    Stock rear
    Juice brakes
    4" drop axle
    2" longer rear shackles
    Wide 5's

    My plans...
Almond or tan wheels and grill
8.50x16 rear tires(6.00 on there now)
    Red carpet
    Paint the door panels red
    Paint the dash black
    Radio of some kind
    Different gauges
    New hood latch(it's broken)
    Old plates
Change the door logo(or just remove it)
Maybe Offenhouser manifold and three rodchesters, like the Hotrod had

Some more info on the truck? EDIT, you beat me to it!
I am not too familar with them, but I would think that coupe would be worth more. Maybe I misunderstood, the story in the post was confusing, that truck is worth $18k?

  9. No love affair. My intention was always to change it up,and trade it for something new at the LARS this year. I wasn't planning on this. It just fell into place at Pomona. I'm happier than shit! Always wanted a truck. I still plan on building my own Hotrod. Now I have something to collect all the parts in,hahaha!

    cool truck ...

  12. He was asking $18k FIRM,or trade. I was gonna ask $20k,OBO at LARS,hoping to get at least $18k,so I think it worked out. The truck rides WAAAAAAY better than the Hotrod did, haha! Plus no more of this,LOL!!!!

So, you gonna bring it to the Beatnik Blowout?

  16. He drove it from Saugus,Calif all the way to Bonneville last year...and used it as a Push Truck! That's how the front bumper got all fucked up.

  26. every man needs a truck. i liked the coupe, but the truck is way more practical. looks like your both winners although i hope the coupes new owner dont turn it into a rr. did you try an convert him to the hamb? hehe.

  27. He's actually a Bike guy. I told him about the HAMB,but when he showed me pic's of his Pick-up he built...I knew there was no hope for him, haha! He was all giddy over these two Ratrods that were parked next to us at Pomona. Hate to see what he will do to the Coupe!!!!!! I just spent $2k on those wheels and tires too....FUCK!!!
    deep clensing breaths...deep clensing breaths....haha!

You really made a cool car outta the "Road Toad". I'm sure the truck will be no different. I'm all about trading for what you want.... Good job.

Have you drove the truck yet? I am wondering how the transmission react to the 283 being it is a few more horses than the Flattie that was in them originally
