Those were factory installed to show off the new overhead valve V-8. They were used in dealer showrooms, and I don't know if they were actually an option.

Was the '55 above a factory glasstop? I thought that fizzled out in '54? Never seen a '55 glasstop.

A guy in Texas sold it on ebay to a guy in Canada about 8 years ago. I had my finger ready to hit the enter botton to buy it, but didn't want to spend quite that much. It's a very cool car. Has a Latham blown 312 in it with a tilt front end.

Wow!!! That really hits close to home. I had one of these in high school same color & same everything. Funny thing is I removed the continental kit & fender skirts and repainted it that same gold color. It was 1966 Pont, GTO tiger gold. Oh how I wish I still had that, pink with all the goodies.

There was a 54 rusting in the ground out by the dog track in Key West in 1970.

That car was originally an old forgotten custom out of Springfield Illinois. It had a 239 tripower in it when I bought it. I went through about six engines before finally settling on the Latham 312. It had three different tripowers, two different 6x2's, a Scott injection, a Hilborn injection and then finally the blower. I'd love to have all of those parts back! Tom Culbertson here in Indy turned it into a "gasser" for me and it made believers out of pretty much everyone who saw it.

I sold it to Gasserkid here on the HAMB (through Ebay before I knew about the HAMB). He later sold it to Fireball500 here on the HAMB and I don't know what ever became of it after that. I've never seen another picture or heard of it again. I've always wondered.

Now I have a 512 inch latham supercharged 1958 lincoln 430 stroker motor sitting in my garage waiting for something...someday. I saw another skyliner with a glass hood on craigslist for $4500 a few months ago and the thought definitely did cross my mind...

  11. those glass tops are tight, i found one on street fire but for somereason it wont show up on the screen. But yeah iv only ever seen one in person.
i thought they were only in 54,55 i didnt know they made them in 56,
    but i want one!!

Thanks to the HAMB, now I have another one too. What to do this time....

is the sheetmetal on the 52-54 Fords and Mercury's all interchangeable? I know it's different but does the front end of a 52 merc bolt on to the front of a 54 Ford, etc...?

  15. These are great cars, would love to have a 55.

The 1954 Ford Skyliner and Mercury Sun Valley use the same plexiglass piece. The 1955 Ford Crown Victoria Skyliner and 1955 Mercury Sun Valley and 1956 Crown Victoria Skyliner use the same plexiglass piece. Ford Production 1954 -13,144, 1955-1999, 1956-603. Mercury production was less and the Canadian built Fords including Meteors produced some in 1954,55, but not in 56. The Mercury Sun Valley used a zippered in Headliner. The Fords a snap in type until May of 1954 when they adopted the zippered in aluminized type which continued into 1955 and 1956. According to the Meteor Skyliner Registry there were 385 Meteor Rideau Skyliners produced in 1954. These Cars used the 239 Flathead engine and a Mercury dash with unique grill and trim.

Dakota, there were no E code 56 Fords 57 was the only year ever for E code. I have had 2 56 Fords with the 2x4 set up on them. Never factory installed, but could be purchased from Ford if you were a licensed N.A.S.C.A.R car owner
