i found this '63 GMC. 350 engine w/auto trans. said it ran when he parked it. the guy wants $500 for it and it is what i am looking for. the only thing that concerns me is it was last registered in 2002. he never put it in his name. i just don't want to find out that it has a ton of back fee's. can anyone shed some lite on the dmv process? thanks. sick

What I can tell ya, is that is not a 63....
60-63 had knee-knocker cabs(wrap-a-round windsheild). 64-66 is what you have there...
Other than that, cant help ya with the fee's question..

As Grumpy mentioned... it is mostly definitely a 1964-1966 model due to the windshield and the doors. The 60-63 has a rectangle looking vent window and the 64-66 has the triangle shaped ones like the ones here.

The grill is definitely a GMC.

This site is all about the 60-66 GMC's:

    http://www.6066gmcguy.org/

Great technical information on there... also info about the GMC specific stuff.

Is the frame of that truck sitting on the ground?

" It ran when I parked it "

Uh huh... The big old truck lie.

  22. Yeah - if the title says '63, you are going to have some trouble with registration... On something that long out of date, they will want to do a VIN inspection, and that will probably not go so well with a title to a different truck. As far as penalties go, if you have a record that you just bought it (like a bill of sale, or the title was never dated...) no state I've lived in ever charged me for the previous owner's back fees.
Get a look at the title, see if it was dated or a buyer's name added (another complication) and do your own VIN inspection (make sure you can find enough places on the truck where you can show the VIN inspector a VIN number that matches the title). They get really persnickety when they can't find enough VIN numbers that match the title...

  24. You live in California back fees can be waved PM me for details. I just noticed it was 2002 thats 8 years ago. It won't exist in the computer anymore, they roll off after 7 I think, but you will have to have the VIN verified and probably the unladen weight because its a truck.

the truck belongs to a friend of mine he traded for it to use the engine in another project. due to lack of funds he is now wanting to get rid of the truck. he drove it to the spot that it is resting in now. said it needed a battery and gas. he told me it was a 63. i don't know all the little differences in them to tell the different years. thanks for the info.

The grill is 64-65. 66 had a different style ( font ) letters.
