this should be interesting.....its time to get to the bottom of the issue, when i do i want to see how many people guess right to the death wobble problem...just for fun
Hard to guess and thats what it would be without a description of the EXACT issue. When, why,how fast.
sorry didnt want to open that sore back up.. i get a violent wobble when i go over a ruff place in the road, at a low speed, it goes down a smooth road fast and stright, no wobble, if i used the brake when o go over a ruff place, it doesnt wobble, all new drop axel, king pins, tie rod ends, ect...caster set to 7 degrees tried setting toe in 1/8'' and toe out 1/8'', still did it both ways didnt change
Well too much caster can wobble but I don't know that it would only do it only over bumps. We had bump steer issues on straight axle RV's from idler arm angle issues. I found this: http://www.naxja.org/html/techarticles/bumpsteertech.htm
Did you mic the kingpin bushings? Thats another one, the could have been reamed to large or not the same top to bottom.
One thing I never see brought up when this issue is discussed is brakes. I think it's rarely an issue with hot rods, but I've had quite a bit of experience with later model jeeps with the coil springs and "four bar" setup. Occasionally, one of the calipers will start to hang up a little bit, and when you hit a bump or something that lightens the front end, death wobble starts. Like I said, it's probably not much of an issue with hot rods, but it's something to keep in mind.
those were the ones i took off mine. car went from shakin' past 65 or so mph, to a decent ride past a 100. they were just too firm for my car. i ended up using some pro shocks instead.
i know that the clearence between the top of the axle boss to the under side of the upper arm of the spindle is .004''each side...
