I believe my friends dad was in the Renegades, Lowell Helms, He owned a flamed shoebox painted by Watson. the flames were painted around the bottom of the car....

  7. BTW...That was MY mistake,not Trace's! I mis-quoted him. I thought he said it was early Moonglow. Sorry guys! I'm a Merc guy,not a Custom expert,hahaha!

"He's having a book restoring company copy the pages and make a new book or something like that. If it's gonna available for sale I WANT A COPY!!!!!"

That's just what I was thinking...that all that stuff should be made into a book!! I'd buy a couple of copies!

If there is going to be copies of that book, I would want my name added to the list! The Renegades are somewhat like royalty in the custom car club world. Those guys did it right!

Here is a trophy from the 1958 show that Bud Lehner's "Fadeaway Ford" won. I am so lucky to have this!

Behind the courtesy cards in the previous picture is one of the programs I have. The programs are really neet, they have cool adds and pictures that were not in the magazines.

I have a few other things I will post latter.

I bought the jacket about 15 years ago. It has been one of the centerpieces of my collection since then. I am a fool for this kind of stuff. (A really poor fool :D)

I will try to post pics of my jacket tomorrow.

I got these from Ed Ducazau. Pictured with the magazines are part of a trophy Ed won with the first version(shown) of his classic RPU. He said he threw his trophies away during a garage clean up, but this remained. He was a classy guy, and I was sad to learn of his passing a few years ago.

Whats so kool about the Showcase of Kustoms show is that theres only kustoms and lowriders and no big inch wheels or silly billetrod stuff!

The shoebie w/ the Cad grille is cool, dont think ive seen anotherone.

Cool troophy! Can you scan the program and post it here?
As you can see on this page:

    http://www.kustomrama.com/index.php?title=Renegades_Rod_&_Custom_Motorama

I have started to collect as much info as possible on this show, including cars attending! Getting info from any of the programs would hel a lot :)

Also here is a site I have compiled containing all the info I have found on the renegades:

    http://www.kustomrama.com/index.php?title=Renegades

I hope this post will help me make that twice as long!

This is a great thread. Let's keep it going.

Thanks to everyone--last, but not least, Trace Edwards--for all their hard work.

I would love to see a nice book done on The Renegades. They deserve it, and so does Long Beach.

  26. Did the jacket belong to a member? If so,who? I would love to find an old club jacket...I always keep my eyes open for old trophys too...I found one once with a '36 3w taildragger on it,that said "Best Custom",but the badge with the name of the show was gone. I have no idea where it is. If I find it,i'll post a pic. Maybe somebody will recognize it,or know what show or club it came from.

Yes that car was really way out there...Lowell Helms was from Bellflower, Watson shaded the Flames from Bold White to Deep Blue, It had a Custom Grill Shell with a 53 Chevy grill with 9 teeth, 51 Buick taillights, and 56 Olds Head Lights. the Interior was done by Jerry's top shop in Bellflower and Ed Shelhass did the body work, the base blue was done by Tom Roady...I will try to scan some pics tomorrow!!! VERY COOL CAR

if i remember correctly from all the stories Watson told me SV was the prez of the club, he always painted there cars. they used to bug him to join the club but he said he couldn't do that cause he would of gave them the best paint jobs and it wouldn't been fair for the rest of the clubs. if you guys ever get a chance take time to go visit Watson some day. the guy is walking story book of So-Cal kustoms. he never talked bad about any of the other greats and the stories he has about sitting on 5 gallon bucket watching Sam and Bill working on a car will blow you away
