These images came from my files. The top shot is from a friend Richard King who took that shot at Biloxi, MS back on '64. The picture's quality is poor. Sol Stewart sent me the Paul Vanderly poster.

Good pictures, thanks for sharing these. Looks like the first picture is at Yellow River, GA. The second one shows how the Nicholson Comet rear wheel openings and axle location were initially ... the "restored" car always looked wrong to me. Might that be the '64 wagon in the foreground left?

I don't have any more information on the Vanderly car past or present. These two pictures are all that I have on the car. I believe that Vanderly ran a Pontiac before the '64 Comet.

For some reason this Comet thread takes forever to load for me. No matter how I set it up to view it takes a long time and only loads as one long page. If anyone wants to communicate with me please do so via private email or through the S/S-F/X thread or the Thunderbolt thread on the H.A.M.B.
    Regards,

Here's a shot that I took in the spring of 1964 at Cecil Co., MD when Dyno Don's Comet coupe was so new that it wasn't lettered yet.

Ken;I have seen four 65 B/FX Comets, all of them unrestored and all red on red.I agree on Dyno's 65 restored Comet looking all wrong! If it really is Dyno Don's old car there wasn't much left to restore,I saw what was left of it for sale,YIKES,chopped top, whacked wheelwells, whacked front and rear subframes,it was a MESS!!!! ROY.

Wow. After seeing that good side profile shot of Don's car, I'm glad I only altered the rear to center the axle under the rear roof pillar on the 'Rocket. They just don't look right with a severe alteration. The graceful rear quarter panel does not lend itself well to the tires being up against the doors!

Paul Vanderly has that poster on the wall of his machine shop. I was told the car was found back east in close to original condition. I think Paul's son is restoring it but my info may be wrong on that.

Two little touch-ups, and its coming home tomorrow. On a bright sunny day, there is nothing quite like Wimbledon White (or something close to it!!)

Watched some of that 40th anniversary T-Bolt dvd.some nice shots of the thompson comet in there.Looks damn nice for survivor.Must have been well taken care of.Tip of the hat for the previous owners.

  18. I think it is still owned by the Thompson Family but I may be wrong. They still have a L&M dealership here in MD.

Jody and Ken;when I was at Carlisle in 04 I talked to the Thompsons and was told it still has about 90% of the original paint!Ken,it also still has the Cragars with the Cyclone center caps!!That show has to be my all-time favorite, just being invited to have my Comet there with all those famous cars!! I still am in awe everytime I see the video or look at my pictures! ROY.

  20. You guys might remember someone working on the rocker arms of the black "Flyin' Farmer" T-bolt in the tent. That was my dad fixing it for Craig Sutton who broke it the night before at the drags. It would have been a "perfect" show if the rain would have stayed away!!:D

    Roy

Got those comet pieces yesterday,Definetly better than what I have. Thanks

Been working on the 65 in the garage all week end,Brakes, suspension, fuel system, and battery disconect/wiring all done.Getting closer.Probably going to drop in the engine this week.

As motivation I have been watching both the 30th and 40th T-bolt Dvds from Jim, over and over.I have to give jim some credit,There is some great interviews on there , some from guys that are no longer here.I'm Glad there was a guy like jim just getting it on tape. What a difference between the 30th and 40th.

Ken;I have never been an autograph hound or been one to put people on pedestals, but when we had the dinner in Oklahoma with all the old engineers and drivers and owners,I was awe struck! In Carlysle Bill Holbrook took a break from the interviews and came out to the tent.He leaned against the Comet with me and we just talked about a little of everything.Scrappy got a picture of us and blew it up and had Bill sign it while we were in Oregon. He framed it and Bill put one of the"Beep,Beep,Your Ass" decals in the frame! TOO KOOL!! The 40th anniversary tour has to be the best car related adventure of my life!!! ROY.

Its kinda decieving.I was building the 65 at the same time as my 64.So I was buying two of everything a couple of years ago.It became way too much trying to do both so I stopped the 65 and finished the 64 first. Its a good thing I bought most of that stuff,I sure couldnt afford it now.

I was trying to stay with the pie crust theme. They are firestone remakes by Coker. The size is 560 x 15.I liked the looks of it the best.Fits my 15 x 4 rim perfect. Its the letter D in the classic firestone section in the coker catalog.

Love the old school pie crust design. The last two are on my Marauder. The front is the same design but just a little bigger to fit the 5 1/2" rim.The back is the firestone dragster Coker design.
