These guys appear to be as unimpressed with being arrested as the teenage hotrodders earlier. Great pic. Black roses in their lapels?
    Brylcreme . . . a little dab'll do ya!

In our (what was it, weekly?) air raid drills in Miami as a schoolkid, we got under our desks. Not sure how these kids were protected. For that matter, never was sure how ducking under a desk would protect us from "the big one". Maybe these kids are praying that the Russians won't bomb us.

They look like 15 year olds, at least a little impressed with having been arrested.

What does most of this thread have to do with hotrodding? I'd like to see it focused on the hotrodders in L.A.

Gee, thanks for your input...Help us find some then, tain't easy McGee. The city scenes show 20's to 60's cars which are hot rod material in the future.

This thread did start out that way when Ryan had this idea. Many of us searched, and found, many car-rodding-custom-drag related photos and posted, with much effort and many, many hours of searching.
This thread evolved into more. It became more about the Los Angeles area lifestyles and trends. It's been enjoyed by many, many HAMBers.
I have received PMs from people just saying "thanks for the pics!". I got another one last night.

So.....if we can no longer find car-rod-custom related photos, we can just let this thread die and sink into HAMB oblivion.
Or, we can continue on and continue to entertain and inform many HAMBers who have found smiles, memories and even inspiration with this thread.

The HAMB is all about traditional hot rods and customs.
Life is about enjoyment, sharing and learning the little tid-bits that make everything a little more interesting.

I know I would not be attacking a thread that has almost 60,000 views.

If that annoys and angers you, let the rest of us find joy here. Please.

I thought my response was calm and reasonable.
The "panties in a bunch" statement is juvenile, at best. You just can't resist not insulting anyone that disagrees with you, can you? I will not respond in kind.

One of the biggest reasons parts for old cars are hard to find and the cars themselves for that matter was the scrap drives during WW2. Here a Junior Army girl participates in a scrap rubber drive.

    Mazooma, you are eloquent.

xderelict, we couldn't agree with you more as far as wanting more hotrodding pics. In fact, that's what we're all doing, searching for that buried treasure. Fact is, like Sam said, it is not easy to find. It's not like we've got it but we're holding it back. Like I said before, as soon as I load my gun with new stuff, I'm firing it at you. But, still looking . . .

OK, so this is not exactly LA, but I guarantee there were plenty of LA folk who went to Big Bear with their bikes. All part of "the scene".

Ok, here's some more cool history of LA
Boozefighters Vern Autrey and Fat Boy Nelson (and original Boozette) Teri Forkner,. It's my understanding that the photo was taken in Hollister in 1947 at the 4th of July event, but was the newspaper picture for the 1948 Riverside "scandal."

here's a link with more info
    http://www.bikernet.com/news/PageViewer.asp?PageID=1603

The Boozefighters Motorcycle Club— made up almost exclusively of WWII vets—was formed in 1946 at the All American Bar in Los Angeles (near what is now the town of South Gate). When Wino Willie was kicked out of the 13 Rebels Motorcycle Club because of his excessive drinking habits, he decided to start his own club with the likes of men such as Vern Autrey, Jack Lilly, Jim Cameron, J.D. Cameron, George Manker, Bobby Kelton, “Red Dog” Dahlgren, “Dink” Burns, Gil Armas, Johnny Roccio, Johnny Davis, “Fat Boy” Nelson, Lance Tidwell, and C.B. Clausen.

Hot Fire at the Frontier Studios. Looks like a lot of highly flammable film went up. Street Rod material there in that 2dr. sedan.

Good stuff OLLIN. No denying that the bike scene was big, and like you said the biker scene started in LA. All of us probably feel the same way, if it had an internal combustion engine in it, it was cool.

    These shots are all 1965.

Does anyone remember the bike hillclimbs in La Mirada?
Before the 605 freeway was built, dad would rive down Route 39 with turned into Beach Blvd. and went by Knotts Berry Farm and on to Huntington Beach.
Dad would pull off the road so I could watch the motorcyclists climb the hill. There must have been 100 guys trying to make it to the top.
I remember it was just before Route 39 would go up the hill in La Habra and take us over into the City of Industry area.

OK, I did some snooping on Google Maps, street level images and found the hill.
It's on Beach Blvd., in La Mirada, south of Imperial Highway...on the east side of te street.
    Hills are there....

a couple of years ago the "Hells Angels" had a booth at the "March Meet" at Bakersfield.
I had to laugh...there was a sign that said...

    "Buy Something Or Else!"

Hope somebody does and chimes in with remembrances. I rode my minibike as a 13 year old in Castro Valley in what was simply called "the hillclimbs", right along with the big boys and their 305 Hondas and BSA's. The big boys would wheel stand it the last 100 ft. up the biggest climb.

    Great California culture stuff.

MAZOOMA That was originally Chevron oil feilds, now Wall Mart, Mcdonalds. and a bunch of expensive homes. I remember cruising through there on our way to cruise Whittier Blvd and it seemed like it was out in the middle of no where.
