Okay...I feel that this is probably a really dumb question, But?

I am about to start putting my '32 Ford axle assembly together to get that chassis rolling. Here is my deal.

    1.) Bought a stock '32 "Heavy" axle
2.) Had it dropped 2 1/2" in Nor Cal by a fellow HAMBer
3.) Noticed today that the "Lock Pin" or "Spindle stop bolt" that locks the kingpin in place doesn't want to go into the axle.

I know they have a taper to them...but it does not even budge. I think when it was dropped, it distorted the hole on both sides of the axle (on each end).

I thought I was just trying to put it in backwards...but

So, my question is.....on a '32 "Heavy" axle, which side is considered the "Front"?

Is it the side that says EE-2? or the opposite side with no markings?

Anyone with this axle...PLEASE HELP. I want to do this right without screwing something up.

    THANKS IN ADVANCE!

Did you make sure the notch in the kingpin is aligned properly with the hole? It doesn't look distorted to me.

Does the lock pin go in O.K. without the king pins inserted??

Yes, I lined up the notch in relation to the kingpins. The lock pin does not want to go in (without the kingpins).

I tried tapping the pin with a hammer...but I just don't want to get it in there and be stuck. I thought they just "slide" into place. Then torque it to 25 Ft. Lbs.

Exactly! When it comes time to take everything apart though to re-paint everything...do I just have to be careful not to kill the pins when taking it apart?

If your going to take it apart for paint before you drive it, don't put them in ahead of time.

OKAY! Problem solved. Talked to my friend that dropped my axle. "Take a 9/16" drill bit and re-drill the holes". This happens when they get dropped and distort from the heat.

Thanks everyone for the information! I appreciate it!!!!

The spindle lock pins fit different in just about every axle I have done. Sometimes they go right in and sometimes the are a tight fit. I've had to massage them from time to time to get a flush fit.

I agree "Krylon32". I had a new Superbell axle, and the lock pin just slid into place. Crazy stuff.

Well, thanks everyone for the help. Now I am going to log off...and get my @$$ back in the shop.

I have had a few messages telling me that "It doesn't matter which side". Just run the side that you want. I think I am going to run it with the EE-2 on the front (I would assume that is right)....but it don't matter, as long as it works..that's all that matters.

I purchased everything separate also "falconsprint63". Hope this info helps.

There is NO front and back on a Ford axle. The holes in the axle are straight through. And they should not be bent for caster, that should be taken care of in the wishbone.

Ive had problems with aftermarket lock bolts that come with the kingpin kits, i usually find my self using originals, but have had the aftermarkets work too!
