"The Ghost of Dragstrip Hollow" Also a question, gang: There was a TV movie in which everybody in town was after Gary Busey's butt, but he always got away in his hopped-up '40 or '41 Willys coupe. I can't remember the NAME, but it it was a decent 'rod movie. ANYBODY recall this one?

Pollard and Robert Redford as motorcycles racers) To Please a Lady with Clark Gable and Barbra Stanwyck
I just watched the Blob for the first time yesterday, Steve McQueen driving a 53 Plymouth, the other kids driving a Purple 40 Ford Coupe, a quick shot of a rodded 32 Ford Pickup, and a couple glimpses of some roadsters. Prett cool

It's not a Hot Rod movie, but the scene in "Old School" with the black van smokin' the tires everywhere to Master of Puppets rules!
Anyone remember "The Richard Petty Story" ? Real lowbuck thing made about 1974 with Darrin McGavin as Lee Petty, Noah Beery Jr. as Uncle Julie, and for parts of the film Richard and Maurice and Dale Inman as themselves. A lot of it shot at the Petty's home and shop, and some local NC short tracks. A few nice hot rods and some 70s era late model stocks turn up in it. I found a region-free dollar store DVD copy of it (with another bad movie included free) and watched it the other night. It comes off like a C-movie takeoff of Greased Lightnin' except about Lee Petty instead of Wendell Scott, and made on a whopping budget of about $50 or so. Probably the neatest "stock car" they use is an early Corvair body set on some other frame, with big wide tires and a scoop on the hood making room for the V8 under it - which was someone's local race car, they didn't even change the name on the door to match the fictional movie character they had driving it.
Petty movie was good....lots of neat old racin footage...and hotrods or not, California kid and Hollywood Knights are killer movies. Hollywood Knights might be my favorite movie ever, I watch it in the shop now and then to take a break, friggin cracks me up...." this shit , is waaayyy outa line..." and ..." does got a little wang to it...good though " or " fool aint got no dick harold.." ...somebody stop me...
" The Lively Set" with James Darren, Doug Maclure, and Pamela Tiffin (BABALICIOUS!) This movie had hot rods, drag racing, bonneville, and a turbine car. The California Kid is my favorite still. I also found a VHS copy of The Giant Gila Monster, which is worth it for all the cool cars.

#1,American graffiti #2 California Kid #3 Heart like a wheel #4 Smokey and the Bandit #5 Gone in 60 seconds #6 Mad Max Thats my list. but there are so many more...
Damn, looks like 50's, 60's and 70's are well covered. But my 'must have's' are Hot Rod, American Graffiti and The Lively Set. Also have Pit Stop (so cheesy it's good), Hot Rod Gang and others. Recently watched Hot Rods to Hell for first time in about 40 years...guess back then I was so engrossed with the cars I didn't notice how bad the acting sucked, whew, that was painful.
