Use what ever motor you want in what ever you want. The original poster asked about the install ,not for personal approval .He is footing the bill ,so i say more power to him ...

I'd rather have a running driving 58 Ford with a SBC than a non-running shell. You can't cruise around in that!

If you've pissed people off, you've done a good job. Go for it!

Check out Kevin's post in the 57 Ford/SBC thread, he's Gasser57. Lots of great info from a great guy

Exactly! I drove a chopped 54 Chevy tudor daily (rain ,snow ,ice, or shine) for 5 years before i sold it awhile back.It was sitting on a Buick frame and had a 307 Olds in it .Never heard a bad opinion of it from anyone that saw it in person.I still miss that car and didnt have any problem selling it when i got ready to :)...

My mate and I fitted a 390 Ford with top-loader and 9" into his '55 Chevvy, it went like a scalded cat.

The rear four cylinders were inside the car and the carb was right under the wiper motor (we had to make a 'funny' air-filter) but hey, at least it had a proper motor in it!~:D

I'm not a SBC fan, but I remember someone telling me that Y blocks were rear sump??
and that means a chevy clears the steering linkage better??
I dunno, just passing on hearsay

If anyone is doing something similiar to this and looking for answers, not opinions. Here you go:
It's in, it's running, it's driving and it's great car. It wasn't an easy drop in task and takes some metal work. I used stock Y block mounts, modified with SBC mounting plates, so the engine sets where it needs to. I did have to cut the trans hump and move it up and back to clear the chevy trans. I used the stock transmission mount/ cross bar. Split the bar in half and welded chevy trans mount, in the middle. The bar bar was widened to fit the new location in the frame. Used the stock driveshaft, with a chevy end welded on it. I used modified headers to clear the steering box. I also used the stock radiator. Had a piece of pipe made for the lower radiator hose. I painted it Detroit Diesel green as to not draw much attention that it's a SBC in a Ford. Anyway... again hope it helps! Again, thanks to those who helped me.

I just swapped a 302 in place of a 223 in my 58 ford...if it ever shoots crap, im swappin in a 350 olds! Always loved the "other" 350s myself. Kind of wish i would have done it to start with. Anyways, its your car, your motor...if people dont like it they can keep walking
