I spent 14 years TIG welding aluminum bodywork with an old machine that couldn't TIG steel for some reason. I can't explain how badly I want to learn to TIG steel, finding the funds to buy a TIG unit isn't going to happen in a long time. Finding a local school would be terrific.
You had to switch the polarity to tig steel.I think other wise it would just blast the aluminum away.I'm not a tig welder but I wanted to buy the attachment for my mig but they said it would only tig steel for that reason.
Check out your local Community College, most have welding courses that are three hours two nights a week or Saturday cl***es. It was a few years back that I took the courses but it was around $300 for tution and lab fees. After the cl*** I took the certification tests and p***ed.
