What's the coolest thing you found in an old car?

  1. a lid is a 1970's term for a $10 bag of marijuana

2 fingers is the measurement for how tall the weed is in the bag

back in the day, a good one was a 4 finger lid

before the term 'lid' it was called a 'can' on the west coast

  6. Had a 31 Model A, went into the right front door to fix the window and found a flight schedule from the Hershey, Pa. Airport dated 1931 and an old partial newspaper with some ads from that era. Not that exciting but the fact that this stuff was untouched for 75 years added to finding this car that had hay in it and was pulled out of a barn.

i found an old indian firefighters backpack and the front page of a los angeles times with the headline "WIN AT NAPLES" from WWII in the door of my granddads 31 roadster. kinda explains the custom dash and 32 axle, im assuming it was originally a war era hot rod

Elpollacko was going to buy a '61 Caddy a few years ago, and while investigating stuff we got the trunk open and found about a dozen bottles of very upscale gin. Had been there since the car was relatively new!

I towed an old Oldsmobile a few years back. Picked it up in the dark and never looked it over. In the daylight, I discoverd an artificial leg in the trunk.

It was really old and weathered, covered with medical tape and a pad for the stump. Funny but creepy for some reason.

I checked into it but all I could find out was that it belonged to a guy from Winthrop, MN who had passed on but wasn't buried with the leg.

Gave the thing to a relative with a twisted sense of humor who uses it at Halloween.

I found what looked like most of the bones from a cat in the smuggler's box on my El Camino. Maybe the skull will be in there somewhere?

I pulled the driver`s seat out of my `36 Cad. Limo and found that a disgruntled employee at Fleetwood had written "Rich A$$-hole" on the divider.

  21. I worked at a restoration shop back in the day. This customer who was in his early 70's wanted to restore a 57' T-Bird because he had one when he was in his mid 20's. It was the first car he ever bought new. He looked around for a decent car to restore for years. Well, in the process he found his original car. It was badly rusted, but he didn't care. Obviously, the sentimental value made it worth while. Afer the body came back from the acid dipper, a hot wheel was found under the dash area that belonged to his son. He remembered his son losing it when he was a child. The car was only a few years old at the time. The old man was pretty happy.

Hot wheels cars were not introduced until '68 so it was probably a Matchbox car.

A friend of mine owned a rod shop and needed some SBC engines for a couple of cars. We went to a towing auction and bought 3 cars. A Malibu Wagon, 4 door and a 80 Cutlass. We Hotwired them and played smash up derby in the industrial area with them. The looks were priceless from the people standing at the train station watching these cars crashing right in front of them. When we got back to the shop we broke into the trunk of the Cutlass and found a book "How to enlarge your penis". It was over 100 pages and had very detailed pictures. We played pranks with the shop next door. They were on vacation for the week, so we shoved the book through mailslot in the front door so that it was face up for everyone to see. It was fun watching the reactions of people walking up to the door, realizing that they were closed, then seeing that book on the floor.

This thread is bringing back a lot of memories.

I was dismantling a 50 ford 2 door for my boss and found a cardboard candy box under the seat. It had a bunch of proto tools, some oil and a fire extinguisher that looked like a hand grenade. I still have the extinguisher. The battery had the caps off and the car had not ran since the early 70's but when I pressure washed the car, water got into the battery and the clock started to work.

Bought a 58 dodge one owner car that had sat parked since the 70's and found about $28 worth of silver coins throughout the interior...along with too many to count brown recluse spiders. Had to bug bomb car.

Bought and old 68 dodge pickup in a farm auction that had the bed full of junk in it...after loading it up went by car wash to start tossing bed crap and found two bushell baskets (rotten of course) full of indian arrowheads and artifacts. Sold almost all of them years ago for almost 4x's what bought truck for.

If anyone has ever found empty soda cans in the doors of your 56 Chevy's, my dad might have put some of them there when he worked on the line back in the day. He used to tell me stories of all the stuff they would toss in the open areas of the cars on the assembly line before all the panels were put in.

I had a 56 Chrysler that was used for storing mail, boxes, books, ect. for a long time untill I bought it. When I was cleaning it out I started a fire in a 55 gal drum to dispose of the old books, and the last one I threw in the fire turned out to be a copy of Mein Kampf.
