Why thank you!! This is my first chopped custom so the view has some getting used to. I can't wait to get it back to my house so I can clean it up and work all the bugs out. Right now it has the stock t-5 shifter in it so it's a stretch to switch gears. I'll get one welded up in the next week or so which should be no problem. Then I would like to buff this car back to a deep dark rich black that it once was. Over spray and dust and people leaning on it has caused some real swirling. Not that it's really a big deal since the back end it primered from the new tail lights but I want it to look it best if I can.

Anybody have a brand new set of 7.10 Firestones that they want to donate to the Iron Hoss Cause???? Just kidding!!!

Thanks everyone for the encouraging words. You guys really motivate me to get going on this thing.

  9. More pics are needed, you have a really cool car there.

I don't know what they are called, but they sell these pellets you can drop into the radiator which help seal up leaky gaskets... I vaguely recall Lunati making them?

Me too!!! Like you guys said I couldn't get any sleep last night I was thinking about everything. I am making a shifter this weekend so I don't have to lean so far over. Thank you Shawn fo all your help. We all really like when your around. After all you are the pro!

I'll look into those but I actually think it's sealing itself like I was told it would. It went from leaking really bad to hardly at all. I appreciate the comments and I'll see if I can dig up some pics of it before....

Then when I get the car home and can wash it I'll get some more updated pics. Thanks again guys!!!

Merc's running awesome right now and is all insured. I spent the day on Saturday washing with Dawn to remove the wax. Then I used a clay bar to see if I could get some of the overspray off and then finally on to a hand wax. I could hardly lift my arms the next morning hahah!!!! Looks way better then it did but really could use a wet sand and buff. It'll so though!

This picture really makes me want to swap out the tires asap. I feel like these are far too small. On another note I did get my Caddy Sombreros in and all I have to do it spiff them up a bit!

  17. Looks good man! Are the sombreros set up for those wheels,or will you have to modify? I spot welded mine to some junk trim rings. If I had to do it again, I would probably use some sort of adhesive.

Looking good JJ! I told you it would shine up nice!

Wait a minute. Did you wash with regular car wash soap after the clay bar? Now you have to start all over again. :D

I bought a set of aftermarket Sombreros from Kustomman#1 here on the HAMB. They were specially made to fin on Ford/Mercury wheels. They look similar but not exact. If they shine up they might be awesome if not, I have a nice set of actual caps I could weld to the trim rings. Or I'll be looking for some '57 Lincoln Premier covers at the swap.

    Shut up.

Yeah, I need to change the wheels and tires asap! I like the spider caps but I really want wheel covers. I am going to try to spend some time on poshing the caddy caps that I have over the next few days. Then I need to save for some 7.10 Firestones.

Nope, washed it with Dawn.....then clay bar.....then wax. Zaino does do a great job.

Thanks Rik! There are definitely a couple options to consider but I am stuck on the tube grille idea from a page or two back!!! So clean looking!

I do like that (or other tube grilles) but I think those type of grilles are a perfect fit for a mild custom... a bolt in custom feature, which you could buy out of the catalogs back in the later 50's and 60's.
Your car however, is far more than a mild custom... and in my opinion needs a more custom built type of grille.
