I've been trying to decide what I wanted to do for sure in the '40 for my interior. When did diamond pleating become popular? Any examples? Thanks!

I may do white diamond inserts in my seats in the '40... I haven't decided between tuck and roll or diamonds yet. I'd kinda like to see diamonds on my door panels as well... I don't know! It's got a flathead in it, so I'm thinking mid 50's- maybe I'll just go with the tuck and roll and save the diamons for my A coupe.

    Thanks for the pictures!

Use to be able to buy by the yard off the roll. May still be able to today. It wasn't the best quality material used.

my dad had a 40 willys coupe that had early-mid 60's thunderbird seats in it. they were actually diamond*****on pleats... each intersection of stitching had a vinyl covered*****on attached. that stuff was on the seats, door panels, headliner. the works...
i may be able to dig up photos somewhere.
the car was built generally as a sixties style gasser.

Goes way back before the fifties. One of the earliest styles of upholstery. Originally*****on tufted was done without the diamond stiching, the*****ons held the folded pleats into place.
    Hard to explain.

  17. Hirohata's are more of a diamond stitch wrather then a diamond tuck or pleat.Hirohata had them in the trunk and under the dash on the inside of the firewall.

  24. The original custom interiors in a couple of the AMT customizing kits had diamond pleats - the '57 Ford was one, until AMT messed up the dies it had a full-on 60s show interior with kitchen table type seats and a console all the way to the back. Most of those kits date to the early '60s -

Langy- did you use 2"x4" pleats? I've decided to do white diamond pleating with black thread and black piping on the '40... Now I just have to decide whether I want them to be 3"x6" or 2"x4".
