Hubert Platt told me that they sold that car while racing it but that was all that he could recall ... I'm not sure if he was talking about the Impala or his sedan 409 though as he just referred to it as "the yellow car".

My dad took that picture and only had it as a slide. He finally had it developed in print a few years back. He had told me about it many times over the years since it was sort of an oddity.

Regarding Don's 62 aluminum Impala, back in the '80s my machinist used to be part owner of a 63 Z-11. He and his partner purchased all of Don's old Z-11 stuff they could get their hands on. Part of Don's stash was a set of 62 aluminum fenders. Don't know if it was the yellow car referenced above, but some of that stuff survived.

Does Jalpy Journal have anything on York U.S. 30 dragway, Cecil County, Captiol, and Aquasco Dragway? Anybody know of any sites for these tracks?

    Thanks,

I'm on the board for drag racing in motion and happen to come across this board.

I haven't been through the whole sites yet but its cool.

From time to time I'll post photos from the 60's. I sure there will be some that has been posted before & I'm sorry for that. I'm sure some of these will be clones also.

Anyway heres the first 5. Hope you enjoy them.

    Hi Bob,
Good to see you here! Thanks for posting pictures ... and repetitions are ok. All I ask is that we keep this thread within the guidlines of the original heading and opening post statement.
I don't know of any Jalopy Journal threads devoted to Cecil, York or any of our area strips except for the Aquasco thread.
    http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=336866
Jody Aberts started a good Thunderbolt thread on here
    http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=136384
... and there's also a Jr. Stock one and an altered wheelbase and Ramchargers thread ... oh and a Comet drag car thread too.

Does this mean no blown cars?

As I mention I will cover just the 60's.

    Thanks,

    Hi Bob,

The idea is to keep it S/S-F/X and NASCAR type cars that were based in real car body/chassis combo ... Some like Beswick's GTA and Mr. Norm's '65 cars and similar ones fit into that. Trying to keep it non-flip-top funnies, gassers and altereds and those types that ran late model bodies. There are other threads for all the other types. No Pro Stocks, or street cars.

I know this is only a model but here is the 62 Impala that Hubert raced in late 62. I talked to him about the car and hopefully with the info he gave me the car is as correct as I could get it

11.50!?!?!?!? That HAD to be a typo. 13.50 at 103 makes more sense.

    Manassas wasn't a 1/4 mile track ... shorter but I don't recall the length.

1/5th mile from what Ive been told but that was back in the 50's. Possibly lengthened by the 60's? Don't know..

Anyone ready for 1965 Plymouth Altered Wheelbase cars - in 1:18 scale die cast? Here are a few photo's of early in the process cars.

Real metal leaf springs, U-bolts, very detailed.

Sorry for stealing the thread, but saw the other models posted and had too. Plans are to do the White Test Mule, California Flash, Sox & Martin, Melrose Missle, and Lee Smith cars.

  28. Very nice detailed AWB Model! That is amazing!

I am going to nitpick here, but I think the Dana 60's were added along the way when they started dumping nitro in the hemis, so wouldn't the cross rammed cars have an 8 3/4" axle?

I think your correct, but we went with Dana's for 2 reasons.

1.) It costs a good chunk of change to get all the new parts needed to do these AWB cars. We had to stop somewhere, so decided to just go with the Dana - as the Lee Smith car is injected so had a Dana. In fact this was the car we actually measured and photographed to do all these. That, and the below reason too.

2.) We're not sure exactly when they all switched to Dana's. These (real ones) were pretty much modified and changed from almost week to week, trying new items to go faster. So "when" one was to have an 8 3/4 and "when" was to have a Dana, we're not exactly sure. Can't ask some of the drivers anymore (RIP) and we've gotten conflicting information from drivers we have spoken to.

Remember, it was a long time ago, and we're doing our best.

  30. That is a very reasonable course of action, like I said I was nitpicking.

For all intents and purposes, the cars were built on the fly, so there probably were some carbureted Dana cars.

Again, that thing is awesome, makes a Mopar freak tear up a little bit :)
