We are two Finnish guys who are going to drive from Seattle to Los Angeles in the second half of June this year (2010).
Any suggestions on sights we should see and where we should go on this trip, interesting events etcetera are welcome.
A few aeromotive, automobile and gas station museums may be of interest, as well as swap meets, shops and what have you...

    We're thankful for any thoughts!

    Terve,

If you are going to be here June 19th and 20th the LA Roadster show, the best in the world will be going on in Pomona. Make this part of your trip, you won't be disappointed!

Aero book/autobooks in Burbank is killer http://www.autobooks-aerobooks.com/
The Peterson Museum is a must see http://www.petersen.org/
    The Nethercuut Museum http://nethercuttcollection.org/
The Justice Brothers on Route 66 http://justicebrothers.com/pages/racing-museum/racing&museum.htm

    pidä hauskaa

    HI Guys,
I am here in Portland, Oregon three hours or so south of Seattle. There are many shops and car collections here, and I will even buy lunch here at the Beaterville Cafe. Contact me and I will give you more info.

Although it's not automotive related, it is worth seeing. Hearst Castle in San Simeon, built by Wlliam Randolph Hearst, the newspaper ty****.

As already stated the coast is a great trip. Many points of interest and the scenery is awesome. There is an air museum in Tillamook Oregon. It is in a rare old blimp hangar, the largest wood structure in the world. There are car shows every weekend in June. Oh yeah, my family is from Finland. There are several old Finnish communities around here.

Sunday, June 27 is Forty Ford Day in Anaheim (La Palma Park). Should be a big one as we are celebrating "40 is 70" this year.

The Spruce Goose is SW of Portland near the coast (can't remember the town) in a decent display. Paul Allen's Historic Flight is in Everett near the Boeing 747 plant with lots of old/odd aircraft, and the Museum of Flight in Seattle at Boeing Field is great. I think Planes of Fame is still in Chico and used to have lots of warbirds. Those are a few things to think about in between hot rod stuff. Seattle used to have the Petroleum Museum too, but it may be gone-there was lots of gas station history there.

McMinnville, great drive through wine country from Portland well worth the trip. Maybe we all need to meet up for a little cruise to welcome them to the area.

every friday night in lacey, washington, take exit 109 and at the bottom of the ramp, turn right and go about 3/4's of a mile and on the left hand side is the old lacey theater.[ now a church]
usually get 50 to 80 cars showing up for the friday cruz. any year of hot rods or cl***ics are welcome.

if ya get the chance, mount st helens is a great place to stop. you really can't imangine the damage the eruption did till you see it in person. l hunted and fished before the boom and it changed the whole area more than l ever thought anything could:eek:

june 19/20th, in portland. the rose city round-up, first or second exit after the wa/or line, janzeen beach exit l think. for info on the show go there web site.

So far, all great suggestions. May I add the Columbia River Gorge (try windsurfing, and check out Multnomah Falls). Crater Lake National Park in Southern Oregon (snow permitting). California Railroad Museum in Sacramento California. Redwood and Yosemite National Parks in California. There are bunches of micro brewerys in both Oregon and Washington so check out the beers and ales.

    And have a great time!

  16. I am doing the same drive in about 4 weeks to drop a car off in LA, then heading back to Seattle via VLV. Thanks for the info guys. Maybe I will drop into one of those HAMB meets and try the snacks.
Thats if us 'international' guys are welcome :)

Seattle is a neat town to kick around in, LeMay auto museum, Space Needle, Boeing Museum, south on I-5 is Mt St Helens, Portland... Beaches Cruise every Wednesday, 300-500 cars, music, beer & drag racing. Stop & see Wescotts, Steve's Auto Restoration, head up the Columbia, Mt Hood Lodge, & places Karl mentioned. Down Hwy 97 to Crater Lake, back to I-5 to Grants P*** to take a jet boat ride on the Rouge River. JSSR Rod Run June 25-27 in White City this year. South again to Sacramento Vintage Ford & other places mentioned, to San Francisco, Roy Brizio, Fishermans Wharf & tons of tourist stuff to do. At this point you need 3 more weeks. Hey I just realized your doing this backwards!!!!YOU NEED TO BE IN POMONA FOR FATHERS DAY LA ROADSTERS....

Don't miss the redwood coast in NorCal, about 300 miles N of San Francisco. I call it home. Drive-thru-Tree. PM me for details on the area.

I reckon you should try to take 2 scenic drives, in particular, along the way...

The first is the 49 mile drive in San Francisco... It's actually recommended that you do this one twice, the first time just to drive it and figure out what things are... The second time you write off a whole day to stop and look at the stuff you liked the first time round...

The other is the 17 mile drive at Pebble Beach, near Monterey... It's a good drive, some cool stuff to see, and if you like sunsets, being on the west coast, you get a sunset that you just don't get over land... (Of course, you'll probably end up driving along the coast at some other time during the trip, so it's not like you'll never see a west coast sunset...)

There's a cruise in at Livermore (near San Francisco) every Friday night at John's Char Burger, the Nobles and Relics car clubs both have their weekly club gatherings there and it's a pretty good night.. Also some damn good burgers there too... :)

  29. Karl failed to mention Wescott's in Boring Qergon, they build the best Gl*** bodies on the planet and a cool stop on your way south.
also every Wed. night P.I.R. (Portland International Raceway) right on
I-5 around 1500 cars, Bikes, Food, Drinks, Live Music and the drag strip.
From the post's here appears that you should just fly in an out of Portland. I have heard that Washington and California also have a couple of sights worth seeing
