Anybody else running a strange motor

I have been getting alot of crap about my motor and trans combo and was wondering if anybody else is running a non-traditional motor. Last year at billetproof Ca I saw a Maserati powered T.
Mine is a BMW V12 powered Willys

 

If you don't lift they'll never see the motor.

 

i rember that T last year, i am some what of a traditionalist, when it comes to that stuff, but from the looks of your build it seems like it still keeps a touch of a classic look to it

 

I don't know....you're not running an SBC....I really don't know how you can call yourself a hotrodder. You'd better get one right away...join the herd....buy speed parts over the counter....start talking "camel hump"... "double hump"... 097 cam...151 cam...30-30 cam...X heads....

I mean...gee - who doesn't have an old BMW 850 engine laying around?

I love the classic engines, before this I had a flathead V12 from a 52 seagrave fire engine. I was going to put it into my 30 sedan. Still might

 

I was working on a ferrari powered rambler....

 

I ran an AMC I6 in the Beater....

 

That´s funny ... for me over here it´s not that easy to find old SBC parts. 327s and 283s are pretty rare.
BMW V12s, V8s and I6s are everywhere, alone my neighbour who sells used parts for a living has at least 10 V12s for sale.

 

i think what you are doing is really cool and is what hot rodding is really about.

Well I'm gonna run a Plymouth 318 v8 in my 59 F100

 

I have a lot of friends that are "Traditional Hot Rodders" they give me crap for not running a flat head or a nail head, but what is more tradional than stuffing a big blown motor in something that was origionally a straight 6.

 

I'm running a 318 dodge in my '53!

 

when I was in high school my mom had a duster with a hopped up 318, man was that car fast

 

A supercharged BMW V12 with open lake headers?

I, for one, cannot wait for the videos and sound clips of that thing under full throttle.

Also, to echo the builder's sentiments, in what way is bolting in a motor that'll make your rod go faster not traditional?

 

I saw a sbc in an early ford...man that was weird.

While not quite as exocite as what your running its very untraditional . I got a freeby 2001 AMC 2.5/5sp and put er in. Runs well and loves the interstate. Its a beater but NO oil leaks, very dependable, easy on fuel, and its a lot of fun to drive. Iceman

And it's undoubtedly more powerful and faster than the engine that would have been in that Model A when it was new, isn't it? How is that not hot rodding?

 

My view is that hot rodders were always upgrading with cooler cast off parts, regardless of what they were from. Someone wrecked a new Buick with a nailhead some hot rod guy was there to snap it up. Wreck a beemer same story. I have a Miata dohc four in mine, looks like an offy.

I am in no way changing my motor just because some of my narrow minded friends dont think it is traditional enough. Oh and by the way look closely...its not a Model A. 1928 Willy's Whippet Sedan shortened

 

The guy at the exhaust shop told me I should pull the straight 6 cylinder and put in a Chevy 350. I told him its a slant 4, and if I had a v8 i would be paying double for the exaust work.

Its probably makes almost as much torque as a 350 any way.

If they give you crap for runnin a neat V12 then they aint hot rodders.
And if it bothers you then you aint a hot rodder.
But I see from your last post that you aint changin... good for you, hot rodder !

I made a custom intake. I will post photos of it later. Snout and pullys are normal off the shelf parts.
