Since the topic of Nostalgia Fiat Topolino drag car came up I found a few shots of my friends streetable & NYS inspected Fiat Topolino
Man your idea of "Streetable" and mine must be quite different Licensed and Legal? - Maybe, but truly Streetable, I don't know man. I can't imagine driving that a couple hundred miles to a Rod Event
He had it at the Wheels of Time show in Macungie about 10 years ago, and we parked it in our booth. Good to see it still around and on the road. Then there's these from my archives. All street driven. Some steel and some fiberglass. Enjoy
The green one "Branson & Harman" are friends of mine,it is all steel, and they drive it, and drag race it also.
200 + miles in that car, at one time? My hat's off to a guy who can endure that - good for him, very cool.
1966...Leroy Smith (Mike's dad) Leroy and I drove this everywhere...everyday. To Oregon for a car show, in the rain, you name it. This car was sold in the late 60's but he built a clone in 1998 which he drives everywhere...everyday. The original car was one that was featured on the cover of Rod & Custom with the "Early Times Car Club"...
I took my Fiat OFF the road.. Only had rear wheel brakes.. Figured sooner or later,i wouldn't get stop. Rick
...especially if it was John Callies' old '303' Simca (the French built Simca Cinque (5) version of the Topolino) street rod.
I've seen that Fiat on the street. At the Adirondack Nationals he was cruising through the town with the body flipped up. Is that car owned by Guy Johnson?
Take one early Ford front axle , shorten it six inches or so and weld a plate over the joint. Looks fragile, but is it ? Anyone care to give an educated opinion ? Will it hold for five years or forever ? Really like to know.
Love this car, am presently looking for another project, a Topo or a Morris, any more pics you'd care to post, most interested!! Craig Wisconsin
I posted in this thread in 2010. It was in two tone grey primer. Since then I built a new tube frame, filled the roof and put doors in it. Also added a 700r4. Please excuse the wheels/
