You are about an ignorant fucker aren't you? Chevrolet was a lower model car to Pontiac, cheaper, people like you, like CHEAP.........simple economics. Tight ass.

If you want a Chevrolet, then don't buy the Poncho.......leave it for somebody who loves Pontiac for BEING Pontiac. Otherwise, buy it and learn about them. You will see how truly unique they are and just how much cooler they are.

  2. Dude, do the Pontiac!!!
    Dare to be different.
Go to any show and you'll see a bunch of Chevy's - not many Pontiac's.
I say do it! It would make a wicked custom.

  3. I think you guys may have convinced me I emailed the guy and asked if I can take a look at it this week so we'll see how it goes..like said before if I decide after awhile its not for me I'm sure I can find a buyer somewhere who would want it

Build what you really want - otherwise you get half way done and lose steam.

Don't really know why they are called Ponchos but Have allways heard them either called a "Poncho" or a "tin Indian".

Geezuz Brandy, you really are brand loyal!!:D

Anyway, look at my avatar, that's the 54 Chevy I'm building, because my daughter dragged it home, if she'd have dragged home a pontiac, I'd be just as happy (maybe happier if it was a straight 8). If you're going to customize it to the extent you say you are, it doesn't really matter what it is now does it?
If I were you though, I'd buy and build that Pontiac, but you better keep it all Pontiac, you're on Brandy's radar now. :D

I'm fine. :D Just crass as shit...........one day, for all you sensitive types, I'll learn to tone it down.........probably about the time I'm lowered into the ground.

I have several Pontiac's. I'm actually a Late Great Chevy girl by nature, I adopted my first Tin Injun to burn around in while I made sweet custom love to my 58.........my tribe has expanded to 4 warriors now. They truly are neat cars and my brother ScooterMcRad has a 53 he will be building with sisterly aid. I gave him a 60 389 to drop in that engine bay, should be a good time.:D

If you are talking about buying the Pontiac but removing the rear "fins", then I would go look for a chevy. Why buy a Pontiac and then go to all the work to take away its identity? Those characteristics are what makes a Pontiac a Pontiac. Just my 2 cents. I don't like to tell people what to do but a good Custom still highlights unique brand differences. They don't try to hide them. IMO

Good luck with the choice :)

get the Pontiac...for $800 bucks you can't really go wrong, you can sell it or try to trade it for a chevy if that is what your heart is set on. I think the pontiac would make a bitchin car!

nothing wrong with a pontiac,i would keep it all poncho .

  16. i had a 53 chieftain for 1 day, and i almost still wanna castrate my buddy for letting his girlfriend make him renege on the deal. i want another.

what a beauty of an automobile. class, class, class.

if you wanna chebby, buy a chebby. a pontiac is distinctive and elegant. lots of glorious chrome and stainless.

if you're just gonna swap it all out, you're WAY ahead with the chevy.

the chevy is a more compact piece and in my opinion more suited to customizing. the LONG nose on the pontiac is best kept with the pontiac personality. but that is simply my opinion. all that aside, if you plan on doing any swapping, there is a TON of stuff available for the 49-54 shivvy, but i have yet to see anything for the same era poncho (not that it don't exist, i just haven't seen it.)

all that aside, go with your gut. you know what you want.

There's a 53/54 Pontiac Hardtop in a little better condition on the local craigslist for 2300 that I'd buy if I had the cash and energy to build it. The biggest rub with customizing the Pontiacs is that if you don't like the shiny strips down the middle of the hood and trunk lid it will take a month of Sundays to weld up all the holes and fill in the panels.

For a chopped custom I like the idea of the longer wheelbase to stretch things out to the max. Long and Low.

wow! sure is great to see the sparks fly when comparing to GM divisions attempting to label one X and the other Y! don't be led by the nose dude, a certain car doesn't guide what people call "the cool factor!"

I like the poncho but wait for what you really want don't settle. Or Buy it and turn it for your chevy fund.

  20. Geeze, I'll trade you two shitty '54 Chevy tudors for your good '53 Pontiac.

HOLD ON!!!!!!!!!! As I was out looking to buy a used truck, I ran across a car lot here in Louisville that had a 2door 54 Pontiac WAGON! looked to be in good shape. There were a couple more Pontiac sedans around back. PM me if you want pics and info. I will go back and find out what I can if you are interested. Dan

I'm gonna second the opinion that if you want a Chevy, and the customizing ideas you envision doing to it you can't wrap your head around doing to the Pontiac, you probably shouldn't jump into either one. Custom grill, Packard tailights, and you are worried about the Pontiac's grill and fins? That doesn't make sense, sorry.

  23. I'd take the Poncho in a heart beat! Wish I'd have never sold my '50 ...

That's stupid. I'm not gonna argue with you, which is why you posted that.

  25. yeah I think the strips on the hood & trunk are pretty cool I'd probably leave em..I've heard people call them "waterfalls" before dont know if thats the correct term though

  26. is it true that the trunks of the chevys are the same as the pontiacs? it appears this pontiac has a large dent in it, might be easier to switch out the trunk if I get one cheap than hammer and dollying all day

I would grab that Pontiac in a heartbeat! You best decide real soon or someone else will grab it. That lil dent in the trunk is a cake walk to fix. Good luck and have fun with it if you get it.

  29. I have been in the same position. Don't listen to the others get what you want. I always settle for whats there and then I buy thousands of dollars worth of parts and it sits because i lose interest. It makes it harder to sell them as well because now you have so much into them. I have an O/T car right now that I totally lost interest in it. I just went for what was there as I couldn't wait. I bought tens of thousands in parts and cannot sell it for that now. And there it sits in my garage. Buy what you want and f*** what everyone else says. Trust me I have been there and done it three times with three cars I got just because i couldn't wait. Took a huge loss on two of them and can't sell the third one as I have way way way to much into it but can't be bothered to finish it.

  30. Which one do you want? That's the bottom line.

You already mentioned what you don't like about the Poncho then mentioned that you were going to change all those pieces anyway.
