<HR style="BACKGROUND-COLOR: #d1d1e1; COLOR: #d1d1e1" SIZE=1><!-- / icon and title --><!-- message --> Well sometimes things in hotrodding world don't go smoothly I had welded up the rear corner fishplates and were polishing out the welds amd daydreaming and the next thing i knew i had made an undercut in the main rail It looked terrible and i couldn't believe i had done such a stupid thing, My trusty helper Gomez said it wouldn't show but i just wasn't happy with them, anyways i had to carefully cut off the plates and make 2 more which were slightly longer to cover the c0ckup They probably don't show in the pic but they are quite deep. At least i think i got away with it I'm off to finish weld now.
Beautiful ride, can't wait to see if finished. I lovw how you work the metal to work for you instead of working around the metal, the end result is a spectacular ride.
Me too, I'm still on it but not much to update at the moment, repolishing bits isn't very interesting 8-( thanks for the comments though
A bit of progress in that I started making up the rear triangulated 4 bar, was originally going with ladder bars but seeing as traction is gonna be an issue i'm hoping the 4 bar will be better Bars are made from 1" od 316L stainless tube, the ends are bungs that are tapped and welded into the tube. I'm using stainless urethane joints (5/8" UNF thread with 1/2" eye) at the axle end and stainless rose joints (3/4" UNF thread with 5/8" UNF eye) at the chassis end. Chassis brackets bolt on into threaded bungs that are welded into the chassis, they attach with ARP stainless bolts (3/8" UNF) , these were not lazer cut as i couldn't wait for them so were cut out with a thin cutting wheel and shaped on the linisher, they are 5mm 316L flat bar. the bars bolt to the brackets with 5/8" UNF bolts and will have castle nuts and split pins as soon as i find some, I may have to make them These took me 3 long evenings to make so you can see why progress is slow Here are the bits made up before polishing Here after polishing and welding
Pretty fkn impressive mate! i just got invited to the T social group (prolly as a fan) and mentioned a few inspiring Ts. I didnt mention yours cause its the 1st time i see it, but as of now its gettin in my top T chart! 2 questions thoug! What the hell is a undercut? and how did you do it? was it a weldin relatd hole? number 2 is: could you please do a tech thread on polishing? its amazing. Only other guy ive seen polishin so fkn well is Hot turkey! Cant wait to c it done!
Thanks for the comments, An undercut is where i was taking the weld down and took it to far, therefore creating an undercut. Polishing i just do it the same as most others do, but I have a friend that has a Polishing and Chrome shop that gives me tips and some special compounds to use, not sure whats in them but i certainly get a shine on stainless
^^^Yep, thought so. I do a lot of undercuts then! but i also use a arch welder :O.^^^ Bet the compound makes the diffrence, or at least cuts time drastically!
Thanks, i'm sure you will get there with practice, keep going at it and it will come in the end, good luck.
Ya' know, I went to MTS' website; they say that their #20 cam is like 240 deg @ .050" with lift around .570-.590". That's not real big on a 500" motor. A 302 Ford, yes; 8 liter engine... not really outlandish. I'm running a 262 @ .050" solid roller (299 seat duration) with .670" lift in a tunnel rammed 489" big mopar. Lots of torque. I have a considerably looser convertor than 2200 rpm, and 4.10 gears, and more low end than my pickup can use. Not saying that you necessarily should go with more cam... just that you may be leaving a little HP on the table with the mild cam and convertor. BTW, I really dig the color on the valve covers; that's going to be killer on the car. And the attention to detail is impressive. Subscribing to this one! -Bill
Thanks for the input, I spoke to Marty and he advised that cam for my use, I can see what your saying but I think I can probably spare a few horses and still acheive my goal in such a light car, as long as I can get it to hookup that is Thanks for the kind comments
Thanks for the comments, we are actually hoping to visit Tennessee this year, i could pop in and say Hi
