Has anybody used this company? Lookin at there clears, plan on doing a .004 blue flake in a clear on a black base and was looking at there paint systems. What is everybody favorite moderatly priced clear to use? If there is one :D My car will not be a daily driver, will only see sunny days out of the garage.I am into final blocking and trying to fiqure out a good product. I have used ppg products.

I use Transtar Clearcoat and find it works and polishes well. Plus it's about 1/3 of the cost of PPG. Here's a 48 P/U I put it on.

I was just at the shop yesterday and I was very happy with the help I received. I bought some lacquer paint and some clear. They carry numerous products and they also can make factory colors for just about any car and year. I will continue to buy from them.

Did you you use a black sealer for a base, or the real base color?
Crossfire clear at Napa is that a Urathane? How much did it run? I am getting close to paint,1st block with 80 grit, now I have put some more slicksand on and working on 180 block :D

I have used the Kustom shop and their clear. I did a small job with it and it came out fine no problems. Its been so long I dont remember much about it.
I have shot their Hot Rodz flat and it was very thin I didnt use the reducer they said to. I have some of their epoxy primer and filler primer I want to test. I only bought a quart of each. The shipping is high but if I buy enough I still beat the local prices.
I forgot I also shot some of their single stage urethane its not bad for a driver and its cheap.
Theres a company here called rubber seal they make good stuff especially clear. They run about half what PPG does and they formulate their stuff to work with PPG HOK etc...

i have $75.00 in the paint job, including the gold leaf lettering.well plus another $100 in primer sandpaper and filler which i still have leftovers of everything.so i would really say $50.00.the clear was leftover from a pre.car.{one gallon}and the other was from a friend that wouldnt use besauce it was about a year old.i sprayed it last spring.the clear that i had i sprayed my hornet with about 8 years ago and it still looks great{i sold it 4 years ago but last week the guy emailed me some pics.of it.

Shopline JC630 and hardener, $111.00. This is a decent product for the money. It's a polyurethane vs acrylic. It looks really wet and polishes out pretty easy. With regular upkeep it ought to last a good long time. You'll notice it appears a bit "thin" compared to other clears and I'll tell you that if you get greedy with each coat it will definately hit the floor. Overall not a bad choice for what you want to do. Their other clear is an acrylic urethane and also not a bad product. It may be better as the mil thickness will be a bit more and you need to bury that flake. Using a black sealer will be ok for a color with flake but if you want black with flake over it the black sealer will look dirty or off color. Perhaps a black sealer, 1, maybe 2 coats of black base just for consistant color then have at it. Shopline is a "production" version of PPG. I wouldn't use it on a 6 figure restoration or a high end hot rod but for a knock around fun car or a good car that's well cared for you'll be pretty happy with it overall. You're asking how it sprays or as we paint fucks say it, how it "handles". Not too different from the PPG frontline stuff. there's also plenty P sheet info on it. Shopline's a big seller for grind-em-out body shops.

I can't add any info on the products you're asking about. I tend to shy away from odd name stuff that may not be around in a few years. I did run some Transtar clear many years ago. It handles ok but that last coat really softened up the 2 below it and it would sag easy if you tried to slick it out too much. if you waited longer in hopes of it not sagging it would invariably solvent pop for some odd reason. Again, for grind out shop it was ok for a " 2 coats and ship it" job. I liked the Transtar 2K primer. Good hold out and no sealer needed, sanded real easy. A professional paint supplier that wasn't a brand specific shop might carry it. Up here in Motown, our PPG exclusive store wouldn't sell it but the rest would. I gave it up because it was getting as high priced as the rest of the products. Good luck. I'll be glad to help if ya need it.

you say in your first post , that you've used PPG products, why not stay with what you;ve used before ? You've spent a lot of time and $$$ on your project , is this where you want to cut a few corners ?

I second the Transtar clear, used a lot of it. Way cheaper then PPG and I think it works better.
