my dad wants me to make a set of headers for his 41 stude. its got the 245 six from a 54 truck. do yall know of anyone who makes the three pipe collector? thanks ed
I build custom headers but I cant seem to find anyone who builds them. Shouldn't be hard to make. Take 3 pipes that will slide over the pipes you have angle cut them length ways with an upright band saw and weld the three halve together. Should look like a 3 leaf clover on one end with a point on the other. Decide on what size exhaust your are going to run and cut off about 5 inches of that slide it over the point mark it cut off the excess of the clover and sew it up and you then have a 3 pipe collector
I have a great magazine tech showing the way headers were built for years. I think it is actually in an old SRM. you start with a round collector and a solid mandrel the diameter of your tubes. and form the collector to fit your tubes on the bench with a vice, hammer hammer tap tap.
Also, there were lots of three tube headers made for Pontiacs. I often see used sets of them at swap meets for cheap; it may be worth your while to pick up a set to cut up for your project.
We have two different styles of 3-1 collectors, a high perormance stacked merge is the most popular, but we also have a flat 3-1 that isn't as high performance but has an awesome vintage look and also can hug in super tight to the motor and frame.
