    A few pictures on 29 Bones phaeton thread . Post # 70.
I grew up riding around Chicago in my dads 41 Dodge 4 door. Not very exciting. I spent most of my time in school drawing 32 roadsters. Not quite sure how I got hooked on Tubs. Go get er.

Very cool story. When I saw that in the classifieds I studied it for a while - that car has awesome potential.

    Good luck with the build.

Slower progress than I bragged about above. My wife has just had knee surgery and I've been helping her a bit more than usual. Usually she's helping me. Anyways, got the Burns / 97 / SW fuel pump installed and fired it. Sounds pretty good. No trips around the block yet. Needs a lot of work to get it civilized enough for prime time use. Looking forward to warmer weather.

Found some gennie '29 headlights here on the hamb. Looking for a '28 drum stop light.

That Burns intake set-up and Stromberg 97 is the way to go for a Banger! I think the carb pic will help me put mine together. I got my downdraft intake (along with my entire 28 phaeton project) right there in your neighborhood, southern Nevada, in 1981 or so. So you're running a fuel pump? What exactly is that?

Man what a great story. Congrats on getting the A. My Dad worked for Lockheed missiles in Sunnyvale about that time as a missile electrician. Those phaetons are hard to find out here. Your gonna have a blast with that thing! Now if you can just find that OTHER one.:D Lippy (just painted a coupe last night) in Ks.

I think the pump is Stewart Warner. It's old too. Can't remember where it came from. Nothing sanitary yet. That will come later. Just trying to get a combination going as I steal 20 minutes at a time.

Sure would be neat to find that other one and see what it looks like now.

I drooled over this car when it became available but time was on my side. I've looked for a phaeton for 10 years or better and finally found one last month that I could afford. Unfortunately every piece that could unbolt from the body is missing, so the parts hunt is on. I found stanchions, a dash rail, hood and grille at the last swap.
Looking for a good fuel tank, chrome stock windshield frame, and doors now.

Best of luck on your build!

  13. Man, what a great thread. Jim, so glad it's in your hands, isn't a better place for it. So glad you'll get the vision right, and completed. Wish I had room to hold onto them all... some day hopefully. Enjoy!

Oh, that 30 phaeton is amazing... drooled over it many times. Good ole Paso spit that one out, imagine it sat dormant under all of our noses in that hood for years. Weird!

Take some fancy photos for us Jim! This guy rules people...

License plates would be a novel idea.:eek:

A friend did the vid with his phone and sent it to me.

'29 shell is temp until I can install the '32 shell properly. Couldn't afford to have it get damaged, and the '29 was in the rafters and looks pretty much like the rest of the car..........

Thanks guys. Yep, it's a wonderful runner. The downdraft helps it scoot. Update; got it****led / licensed and plates came yesterday. Got box of goodies from Mac's to completely re-wire and get that part reliable. Got a tuna can drum tail light (1928 style) from Chris, and some unique T era headlights. I'm a sissy so been waiting for the wind and snow to stop blowing before I do much wrenching.

Hoping to have a daily driver here in a couple of months. Gotta figure out the wind screen. Glass would be nice :D

Great story. It looks like you have found a good sustitute, But it would be great if you got a clue out of this thread to track the other one down. At that time chances are good it went to a restorer. Some of those guys sit on something forever and never get it finished. Really like the direction you've gone with the new one.

You know,I've been around or a part of the Hot Rod movement since I was 16 in 1953! And I've always had a soft spot for open cars, and I'm building a '31 A Roadster (Brookville) now.
But one thing I wish someone would explain to me: What is the difference (if any) between a phaeton and a touring car?

A touring car sold for $285 but a phaeton sold for $485.

Just kidding. No difference. Ford was going for the fancy name gusto. Trying to shmooze with the folks on the better side of the tracks.

Thanks for asking. Mostly waiting for better weather. Winter has been hanging on at 6000 elev.

    Got the****le issues resolved.

Bought a wiring loom and some lights to re-build.

Bought a decent welding machine and some other tools like an 80 gallon 7.5 horsepower compressor that I've needed for most of my lifetime.

Have lots of high hopes for adventures before this year is gone!

I just found this thread...Cool story Jim.

As much as I love the Phaetons....your location...Tonopah, brings back memories.
A brother inlaw had an old mining cabin there back in the 70's. He was into antiques and just picking around for stuff.
We went up there and got the old gas stove out of his cabin one summer and I used it in my little house ( shack ) for several years. It had legs and you'd light it with a stick match. It matched an old G.E. fridge I had ( with the motor on top ).

Nice place to cruise your Phaeton. Have fun.
