As mentioned above, move the letters forward and then use lace or fish gill background. I love the car by the way!

Good looking concept for the paint. I'm sure you will fiddle with it as you get closer to putting the colors on, and get it just right.

Here they are changed up a bit.

Not sure if it will say "WILDCAT POWER" "401 POWER" "445 WILDCAT" "NAILHEAD POWER" ETC.......

There will aso be some water transfer decals on either the side or back window(s)

  6. I like this one but not sure if I like the way "Chuckles Garage" is, what if you centered it above the wheel or left it like it was in the original pic and did a little airbrush bird or caricture of the car smoking the tires in a wheelie between the door and rear wheel opening.

  7. Opinions are like assholes, but the way the Chuckles Garage went over the wheel radious looked great but the Strange bird centered on the door looked good!! Just another asshole,,, uh opinion though!!

  8. Oh and maybe the red stripe could have a bird head shape in the front, behind the headlight!!! Like Mr. Horsepower only more vicious!!! Like the bird on the old I SPY cartoons or such!!!!!!

A few ideas/suggestions and some more questions...... I think the idea
posted by "Stewed" to incorporate the old, infamous "Mr Horsepower"
    bird - (http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/a...8&d=1270836808 )
in a slightly stylized and (even) more vicious looking version of him, - into the
paint scheme, iwould be absolutely classic and very cool! And it'd definitely be
period correct' and also in the case of "Strange Bird", extremely 'theme' appropriate
too!! One possibility - if you decide to use the "Mr Horespower" bird in the paint
design. - to 'stylize' and personalize him a bit - what about replacing the cigar in
his beak with something like a connecting rod, perhap???!!!! The idea being, that
he - ie - "Strange Bird" - has just destroyed the competition and is carrying off
and/or eating a connecting rod from his latest victim!!!!:)

It think I read earlier, that your plans were not to use a hood at all?? Not that
it really matters , but just for authenticity sake, I'm pretty sure that hoods were
required on gas class cars - at least those running per NHRA rules. Old class
rules aside, I think too, the car might look better/smoother/more finished with
a hood. Once you cut the center out for the blower and carbs to stcik through,
it's not going to weigh anything anyway. One possibilty that might look *really
good* - rather than running no hood, - or a full hood, with the center cut out
for the blower and carbs, as most guys do, - what about, maybe, cutting the
front section off the the hood and just using that part of it - from the grill, back
to just in front of the blower belt? That would still give a 'hoodless' look and
completely expose the engine and the beauitful tin and chassis work, but would
give a smoother (and more aerodynamic) look to the nose of the car, compared
to running no hood at all.

About cooling. Are you planning to run a radiator? if so, an actual functional
one that would allow the car to be driven or run for some lenghth of time,
other just a pass down the quarrter? It might be nice have a functioning
cooling system that would allow you to drive in the pits (or drive the car
around a bit at a car show etc. ) and also be able drive, rather than have
to be towed back on the return road after a pass. 'Back in day', gas care
were required to run a radiator, per NHRA rules , but the rule book didn't
actually specify how practical or effective the radiator had to be. Some
gas class racers ran actual functioning automotive radiators but some
others got pretty creative in their attempts at weight saving and built
super-lightweight and tecnically "rule book legal' - but not really functional
    - rads, using things like automotive air-conditioner condensor cores
or (other) homemade contraptions, made up of a few bits of alluminum
tubing welded together tp hold and circulate a minimal amount of water
and kind of 'resemble' a functional rad! In your case, if you want to run
an actual functioning rad that would alow the car to be driven though,
one obsticle could be in mounting a water pump on the engine. I doubt
a stock Buick V-belt driven waterpump will fit any more, due to the
blower drive and an electric waterpump, while workable, would probably
be too 'modern looking ' to look right. One possible solution though -
since you're still using the marine front cover and mount assembly, you
could use that to mount a cam driven Jabsco or other brand, marine
water pump. It wouldn't be as effective as the uch bigger stock,
V-belt-driven Buick pump, but it should move enough water to allow the
car to have a functioning cooling system - and would look very slick -
and not rerquire a belt or interfere with the blower drive! :)

I know the class requires hoods, but I like the fact that the hood is completely missing, it adds to the whole violent theme the car seems to have, I like that it has no bumper in front as well. It's only an exhibition car, I dont plan on competing with it other than running a few nostalgia events. If I ever do add a hood, it will be glass. I'll run a glass rear bumper as well. The Mr. horsepower bird Idea is cool, but I will probably stay away from using existing logos. I'm going to to a cartoon of some sort, but not sure what. It will probably be the whole bird doing a wild burnout or something like that. I picture the face looking crazy and evil at the same time. There will be no radiator in front. If I do anything, it will be in the back somewhere. I may run a cam driven pump as well, not sure. I'll cross that road soon. Keep the ideas comin!

Can you get the valve covers off with the motor in the car?

Can you post some more pix of the intake

Yes, the firewall is attached with three dzus fasteners per side. You can get to pretty much everything. I will post some more pics of the intake as soon as I tear it down again.

I know it's supposed to technically be a "gasser"
and maybe this is something a bit (and probably
a lot) more radical than you want to get into - but
have you thought about running "Strange Bird" on
methanol? That would allow you to put some
overdrive back into to the blower, while still keeping
    the high-compression pistons,.without hurting them.
Also it would allow the engine to stay cooler and run
for longer periods of time without a cooling system
too. It would take a bit of reworking, - mostly drilling
the jets way oversize and modifying the needles &
seats for increased flow - but 4GC carbs have been
modified to work on alky in the past.."Back in the day',
I knew a guy that did this with a 4GC on a dirt stock
car as 'cheater' trick for qualifying..If he was running
at a track where he thought he'd have trouble qualifying
and/or getting a decent starting position in a typical
30-plus car feature, he'd skow up with 5 gallons of
methanal in the tank and his special 4GC alcohol-jetted
'qualifying carb' on . Once he qualified, he'd fill the tank
with gasoline and switch to his normal, legal 'gasoline'
4GC 'race carb' and run in the feature! He eventually
got caught and banned from a couple of tracks for a
while , but if worked ....and it was fun while it lasted! :)

I think you need to rename the car "RECLUSE" after you recent attack.

Jerk. I'm going to delete you on my facebook. pfffftt.

Ahhhhh! Methanol would be rad, but gas is where its at for this bird.

Seriously man, almost dying from a tiny little spider bite is humbling. Watch out for them things.

Thanks! It will probably be just a head, I don't wanna get too crazy with it.

    Super Chicken is badass!

Not likely. My wife told me to tatto one on my hand too. Totally not happening hahaha. I HATE spiders!

That makes me stoked to inspire you! Do you have a build thread going for your car?
