Hey there guys, I have the opportunity to pick up a Cadillac Flathead next week and I just wanted to feel you guys out what your opinions are on those motors, I have done some research on them and I just think they are so trick looking with the exhaust on the top of the heads. This engine is in very very good condition and looks to be almost 100% complete with all the brackets and pulleys and such. I wish I had a picture but that will come later. Is there any pros and cons I should know about it. I know speed parts are going to be a ***** to find but I am willing to build the motor stock then build from there with the speed parts. Any input on those motors would be great appreciated! Thanks HAMB!

They are so cool looking, and would be a head turner in the right rod.

There is a small but very helpful Flathead Caddy community on here. Speed parts are hard to find but things are getting easier all the time, as there are a number of guys that have started building new speed equipment.

Search here and you will find some very helpful threads.

Yes, I am reconsidering the motor to put in my 32 5-window. From a Y-block to this Cadillac Flathead. I think that would be a totally awesome motor to put in that car that would still be very traditional but yet sooo unique at the same time. The motor I am getting has been sitting inside for a very very long time so I do not think it would take much to get her running again. Any issues with the weight of those motors. Heard they weight a half a ton!

They do weigh a lot, but were monsters in their day- 37-41 Cads were 135hp, 42-48 were 150hp, with 260 ft/lbs of torque!

And, they just look and sound sooooo cool!

If by "regular", you mean the Ford/Mercury flathead, they weigh in very close to that of a SBC====one of the many reasons that the 265/283 became the swap of choice for early Ford owners.
