I live on a dead end private road with two well established gun toting, crazy neighbors with several dogs. All of my dogs and the neighbor dogs go apeshit if they here a vehicle not owned by us. Give it a shot, I may get robbed, but gun fire will ensue. Theives will just kick down a locked door to gain entry if they want in. My neigbor has scared the hell out of several people who have ignored the no trespassing signs on a nature drive.

I'm pretty sure the locks dont work in my driver, there's nothing in it to steel. And lets face it, who would want to be seen in this thing other than me?( It's not getting stolen.)

I lived in a warehouse in the shitty part of town for 11 years with no real problems, and then while i was out of town some drug casualties crowbarred the security door open and took everything they saw that they could walk off with. They were in and out for 3 days. Lost a lot of tools, guns, guitars, amps... you name it. Interesting that they didn't take stuff that wasn't obvious- an $800 amp ON WHEELS that was right next to the front door didn't get stolen, probably because it had a shitty-looking cardboard cover on it and it just looked like a beat up old box.

We bought a house that already had an alarm system so we use it.... the lesson i learned is that a lock will keep the lazy crooks away, but an alarm going off will keep pretty much everyone out. Costs about $25 a month.

the only good news about the robbery was that my wife saw some of the dirtbags in the neighborhood wearing some of our clothes- she followed them, called the cops and 6 months later two dudes went to prison for a very long time.

DD has no doors, windows, or top. I drive a Jeep. Have 2 10's in the back with a nice amp. Just have a cover over the rear. No one sees it and I turn it down going into a parking lot...

Don't lock em. But I do have a Shepperd/Chow that everyone's aware of. She likes to lurk around the tree line and surprise them. I don't get any second time strangers. I live in a real rural area so if you come here there's a reason.

i wouldn't mind one like it. kingman az has a lot of traffic running thru it (i-40,us-93, railroad etc.) and a lot of tweekers and freeloaders :(.... it's just a good idea to lock up... it boils down to slowing somebody down and making noise to give you time to cock that 12 gauge....

I have the pleasure of living not far from Newark, NJ. And lets just say, that I lock 24/7, even when I am driving. If it isn’t locked up, consider it good as gone. Even behind my house and off the street. If they want it, they will take it. Would just love to catch someone trying to break into my car, but then I would be the one locked up for using deadly force. HAHA.

I won't step completely on my political soap box, but when we were kids our parents taught us to respect others and their property. If you wanted something, find a way to work hard for it.

Today's younger generation it told someone owes them a good job or that their life should be easier. With the proliferation of the internet and instant media, these kids are bombarded with these ideas.

So lock things up boys. The criminals now have more rights than the victims and they know it. Sure makes it hard to raise your kids right when all this is going on around them...

I agree 100% but it is not just the younger generation that feels they are owed something. When I was a kid in the 60s my folks left the keys in the car and never locked the house, then that all changed after the riots in 68. Teach your children well...Slim

  20. When we first moved here, within the couple months, my brother's locks in his OT c*maro (I spell it like that so if someone googles the word, the HAMB is left off their radar :D) were removed...yes punched through then pulled out. They stole his speakers. He had something like twenty dollars cash and change in his cup holder...along with his wallet...all of which was left alone. I'd say everyone locks their doors here. There is a small town about 5 miles down the road where I'd say it's like Mayberry. Though, a guy from there came and commited suicide in our S*bway's bathroom, the deli-type chain. What if a kid walked in and found him instead of an adult? Some people. I guess my point is that it isn't the "place" that isn't safe, it is the "time" in which we live.

I want to be able to live in a spot where locks are optional. I always lock my house, usually lock my DD's but with this one, I just dont care. I have had a couple cars stolen from me before. VW's are easy as hell to break into as are many others. Had my audi s4 stolen from me (supposed to be very hard), if they want it they take it. This one, I dont want to pay for glass getting fixed or other crap, rather loose 5 bucks in change. Probably some dope feen, we are talking about Harlem NY. the truck will have removable steering wheel as well as many other detterents.

Good to hear from all you in your Safe and Not so Safe areas.

This also came to mind from a couple days ago watching Meet the Morgans, when they go out to Wyoming and the guys leaves the keys in the ignition. Must be nice

I don't have door keys to my truck, so I always leave an old burnt-up power tool or something that looks tempting but is really junk laying in the bed in hopes someone will take it instead of the stuff inside. After about a year someone finally took the bait, which makes me laugh just thinking about it :)

My daily driver is a constant target, 98Jeep. It usually gets something stole off, out of, or from once or twice a year. It has already happened once this year. They took a Hi-lift jack off of the back.

One time I had my soft doors on which can not be locked and the SOB's cut open my windows. All they had to do was pull on the handle and the door would have come right open. It probably took longer to get out the knife and cut the window than it would have to just open the door. By the way they only took a bottle of cologne, left all of my tools, radio was untouched.

I never ever lock things. I must just have good karma!? I figure if they want it they will break in anyway. The only thing I ever had stolen was when I moved to Santa Fe for a couple of months I had my speaker box ripped out of a convertible Blazer. I better not catch anyone ever around my sh-- uh stuff. They will be in a world of hurt!

Locking doors ain't just to deter thieves.
Yes, I lock the doors. It's a no-brainer. A little kid with no intent of malice might be tempted to get in that old jalopy, might get in there playing around and release the e-brake and the rolling vehicle might kill one of his friends. I wouldn't feel so good about that.
