  1. Back in the day of my mis-spent youth, I'd have a set of plates, use one on each of my 2 cars. Never got stopped for it either. I did get stopped for missing my REAR plate about 10 years ago, either it fell off or someone grabbed it. I wasn't issued a ticket.

I had found a NY dealer plate that fell off a car in transit, right on the side of the road. I used that for years to move cars around until they changed the color of the plate. I wasn't up to re-coloring it.

There are a lot of ways that cops can glom up revenue, although in many areas they don't have the manpower to assign them to strictly traffic duty. Which works in our favor I'm sure.

  2. As insult to injury, the camera tickets always come in the mail, surprise! My boss got one, brought it in and showed it to me. It had 4 clear pictures of his car. He has no recollection of fudging a stale yellow light.

The whole thing looks like it may be 100% automated and possibly self-mailing. Scary shit. I no longer run yellow lights.

I've had a "Red Light Ticket" and it's not to a party in Amsterdam either. I'm being totally honest here, I made a right turn there and maybe I rolled through a red light.

To the best of my knowledge there are a few of these manufacturer's who design, build, install, maintain and send out the tickets. Where I live, Urban St. Louis, the cops don't even know you've been issued a ticket until you mail in the dough. Which, btw the manufacturer gets a cut of. Can you believe this? Come on man can this be fare and square?

One of my best friends has a father that is an attorney. He told me not to send it in. They don't prosecute these around here. He said if I got in a pinch over one these to call him and he'd handle it for nothing.

My previous post was a cheap shot at lawyers. To any rodder types out there that might be attorney's...that wasn't directed at you.

the "fix-it tickets" you got before for it were a joke.. it was bound to happen sooner or later, I don't know how many times I was popped for this, I would zip tie the plate to the grill go down to the station get it signed off pay may 7$ fine, and take it right off. What we started doing was just sticking it in the front windshield attached to the back of the window viser so you could just flip it down sometimes you'd still get your balls busted for this but most of the time it was no big deal just explain to them you didn't have the original mount with the car, ect no way to attach it securely ..

  5. Hell, around here the Police can generate a FORTUNE by following Ambulances and other "Emergency" vehicles. Fucking assholes around here never yield properly to them. It's horrible to think one of those vehicles may be on their way to help someone I know, and hindered by some jackass

If it's the law there then suck it up.
I wouldn't post on here bitching about a fine for running no fenders or a speeding ticket if I got caught.

I got a ticket in my doorslammer for no front plate just coming home for lunch. Parked on the street in front of the house, came out 15 mins later and found the ticket.
Point being, they dont have to pull you over, just parked is fair game to them.

    Glad I'm not in California...

Although, I did get a $142 ticket because the rear plate on my truck was a couple of inches too low.

  9. Just wait until you get one for no front plate from a red light camera that took the picture while your waiting for the light to change.

Noticed my brakelight was out and was on my way to Kragan for a new bulb and was pulled over for------- no brake light!!!. I guess it was training day and the vet was giving the rookie a lesson on writing "fixit tickets". The vet told me its only a fixit and no big deal--- To him. It was still $28 at window for addminestrative cost.

I find it curious that the fines for using a handicapped parking space and bus loading zone are higher than the no child restraint fine.

Do we know if it is a mandatory $178.00 fine or does the officer have to check the box to make it a fine and fix ticket? 99.9% of the time in the past the cops just made it a fix it ticket but there is a box they can check to make it a fix and pay fine ticket that is also a point on your license.

I wonder if there is going to be a new mandatory fine for to low? Now that would really suck!!!!!

I guess we are lucky in Nevada. The code says that you only have to run a front license plate if the manufacturer included the provisions to do so. Did you happen to notice that running without an approved muffler is also $178.00? I wonder what "Approved" means?

Front is required in CAL as in most states unless you have a '46. California did not make plates in 1946 for cars. They used a 1945 plate, which they only made one of because of metal shortage during the war, and issued a tag for 1946. I went through this when I registered a 1945 plate for my 1946 Ford. It all started when I began searching for 1946 plates for my Ford....they don't exist. DMV folks of course generally don't know this and you have to make them look it up.

My no front plate fines have "only" been 25 bucks a pop. I've been getting them when I park at the airport!!! I pull up to a wall in the parking structure, so you wouldn't even know. I guess they are getting me coming in on video. It's kind of like a welcome home card neatly tucked under my wipers.

If you tell the Officer you bought it that way, they MIGHT suggest going to the DMV to get new plates issued.
Otherwise you'll be "on their radar" and continually get stopped for it.(it's an easy ticket to write...)

Or....take the chance of having a "replica" made and getting it sent to someone OUTSIDE of California then forwarded to you.
(I'm not suggesting you do that.It is an Infraction to have "Fake"(or Altered) License Plates on a vehicle in CA)

  24. Do CA courts just work on some alien principle?

Say I get a no front plate ticket in NY - which did happen to me once, I forget why I didn't have it on the car now, it was a long time ago - I just go in to court and tell them I fixed it (in my case, I finished off a roll of film taking a picture of the plate on the car, and brought the print with me), ticket dismissed, cost: zero, except for the hassle of parking downtown and the time spent in court. The last fix-it ticket I got about three years ago for a brake light issue, about 40 miles from home, I didn't even have to go to court for, I just mailed it in with a form from a licensed inspection shop saying I'd fixed the light. Again dismissed. The people who work in the court get paid regardless of how many tickets they handle, so there's no extra cost involved. I don't think I've ever paid for a legit fix-it ticket.

That said, they are doing revenue generating things here - this is the last day of a hand-held cell phone use crackdown. I forget how long a time they said but for like at least a month before this started they issued like 10 tickets for using a cell phone in the car. In this last week or so? 1600 tickets.

  26. I had a car I just bought in front of my apartment on a side street. I was leaving it the street with a switced plate just until I got to DMV, which was only 2 days. On day 1, I come home from work and there is a ticket on the car for switched plates. I promptly moved the car to my dad's house and paid the lousy $20 (at the time) fine.

I only got the black rear plate on my 2nd '64 A-100 when I bought it. I walked into DMV with it, the guy never asked if I had the front plate, and I never mentioned to him that it was gone. I was just happy to keep my one black plate.

Now, of course, if I do get popped, then I'll break down and get a pair of plates for it I guess. Until then, i'm sticking with the black plate. I like it.
