Does anyone run a 4 barrell carb on thier flatty? Torn between the look of a duece setup or running a 4 barrell and the original aircleaner off of my 1950 flathead? Just wondering.
Since it's your car and I don't have to pay for it or maintain it, go with the 3 Stromberg 97s. I much prefer the look to that of a 4 barrel. Seriously, it's all in your priorities; whether you want pure nostalgia, or some measure of practicality without sacrificing performance. Bob
I have two 94s on a regular offy manifold and love it.Its way more nostalgic and looks great.Theres more to take care of but hey when that hood goes up and you see the two linked and running great its worth it.
I would also go with a 2x2 setup. Just tune the carbs once and run straight linkage... even if I do get on it a few times a day they still stay in sync. I highly recommend the Offy super dual intake. Way cool!

Me to. I've done several with the Offy super dual with 94s/straight linkage and had good luck. I set the fuel pressure at 2.5 lbs. I'd like to run new 97s but am to cheap.
I have them with a four barrel, a single 2-barrel and 2x2's. The best running one is the single 4 barrel. It uses an early 50s small base Carter WCFB on a Fenton intake. Rochester small base carbs are easier to find. Stromberg also made one. The Offy 4 barrel intake has an offset generator mount (an inch or two), so I'd avoid using that one.
Good point about that OFFY offset. My earlier photos show an OFFY intake and the generator offset is 7/8 to the right as you stand in front of the car. It's a really BIG problem and not easy to solve. Stay away from the OFFY 4 bbl.
Don't know for sure but I think OFFY made it for those who were going to use the 'offset" generator bracket just in case the generator would hit the carb. In any case avoid it like the plague.
Im running an Old original Edelbrock 452 4-barrel intake, and a '59 Chevy Rochester 4-G 4-barrel. But I also have a full hood to cover it in my '53 Merc. I tried the 2-2 route with an old Edelbrock intake and twin 94s. Could never get it dialed in. I think it was mismatched carb issues now. Never had a bit of truble with the 4-G and don't think I'll ever change it.
I'm running a Edmunds intake with 97's in my 50 Merc. Straight linkage, dialed them in once and they have been fine. Runs great.
thanks for all the feed back, I agree the duece set up is way cooler. used to race Kawasaki 900's when I was young and bulletproof, used to sync 4 carbs on them so the 2x2 setup should bring back some memories. Thanks a bunch for all the info and the pics. Was going through all my flat head stuff and found out the crank is a Merc so I am sending block to machine shop this week along with crank so I can start building. Any one have a set of adjustable lifters they no longer need????
Thanks, and yes, the bracket is slightly offset, but isn't a problem. BTW, the "4d" is for "40"; mine's a Tudor
