Don't get me wrong I think Rick does great work but it is hard to argue that he isn't pushing the envelope of what is traditional. Ghost flames, slotted taillights, web headlight inserts are not traditional. Does he build great cars, I think so, but I also see where guys that are into strickly traditional customs (which is what this site is about) would see his builds as taking things a bit far. I am glad he posts because I love to see what he is doing and how he is doing it but it doesn't surprise me that more guys don't post on his threads. I will also say I think it says a lot about him that he continues to post and is always very helpful when asked questions even though he sometimes doesn't get the support other members do. I wasn't knocking what he does just trying to answer your question as to why more guys don't respond to his posts.

Hey thanks to all of you for the imput on what grill to use in this Carson topped 49 Merc build. As you already know my customer wanted the way over done 53 Desoto grille installed in his merc but now thanks to you he has seen the light and gave me the thumbs up on the 55 Desoto grille. Next we will be shaving the 49 parking light and filling all the bumper bolt holes.

We finally got to shaving off the stock merc parking lights from the fenders. The bumper apron also had a few issues. We had to remove it due to a small dent that was creating a bad case of oil canning and also filled the 2 fog light holes. Now that the dent is removed and the oil canning issuse is fixed we dicided to welded the apron back on to make a smooth seam betwen the fenders and apron.

hey rick, just wondering why your still posting on the hamb after posting on ruffrodders.com on 4/6/10 "glad to see this site is still up as it's the only one that has respect for true kustoms. rick" i guess it's ok to here if you can sell something then?

Yes I post on both sites just like a few others do. I do not post to sell ****!!!!! I do it to show what and how we do things that might help another kustom builder on there project and yes ruffrodder site is more friendly to my style of Kustom work. My question to you is why are you lurking on both sites and what is your real reason for this post ? Rick

Man, enough already. I don't think this particular style is 100% "me", but who cares? I could look at this guys **** all day and all night and not get bored. This is some top notch work with some outside the box ideas, since when is that not cool? This car is coming out great Rick, absolutely. Way to go, I like the way you lenghtened the doors. I have a mint set of '49 doors here I am going to lengthen when I get a chance. I have repaired some really, really shot rusted out coupe doors and I can't help but think that this may be an easier route. Plus, you always end up with some NICE door hinges! ;) Chris

    Mike,

You obviously don't know how freely Rick gives of his time and his advice. The man is a legend and doesn't need to advertise. He's always willing to give his advice and opinion and the majority of us here respect his input and appreciate his presence.

I belong to one of the "other sites" too where I get to see more of his killer creations, but I'm not *****ing about it.

Some up dated pics. Last week we welded the rear fender seams to the body and found some real ****py body work done in the past on the lower section of the p***angers rear door. You know the old slide hammer trick with holes every where like swiss chees then covered up with alot of mud  So we had to cut it out and replace it with some new skin. Getting real close to starting the body work and paint. Rick of Exk

This carson top mercury is coming out way too cool. I donot know how in hell you do it but each one you build turns out sick. That windshield frame and vent windows look like a real convertible.

It's been awhile since our last update as we have been super bussy trashing on cars with no extra time for the computer. We have finished the body work and now have it sealed in an epoxy waiting for us to put some shinny stuff on it. We will be painting this one in two colors. The top side will be your basic Gloss Black down to the 53 Buicks side sweep. We plan to paint the inside of the Buicks side sweep with a Gold mine flake base top coated with a candy Aporcoit.

  22. Looks good. Can't wait to see it all shiny with the top in place. I'm a ****er for a carson top.

Here's a little update. We have got all the Fender, door and trunk gap's fine tuned and have painted it in a black epoxy primer. Just one more finall blocking and it will be straight as hell and ready for the hight gloss black paint

I have been looking at alot of pictures of mercurys with carson tops and have noteist they all have a uggly droppy side porfile of the door tops to the top of the rear fender. Looking at these pictures you have corrected that and made them flow very nicely.
