My grandson has enough stickers to do up about five hotrods, but he doesn't have any hotrods. Please send us five hotrods....no rat rods please, unless they have early Olds/Cad/Buick/or Hemi mills.
In this economy scammers are everywhere looking for a free handout. Ebay is the worst it ever was. The last three deals the people took money and never sent anything. I spent more time getting my money back from paypal than its worth. One guy I think took photos of everything he owned and put it up for sale and stiffed 8 people and counting. I used to help everyone, now I say NO to everyone no matter what. Sad its come to that but more people are scamming than ever before.
It's too bad people can't be legit. I like helping young ones out with their hot rod and racing dreams, sponser some with go-carts etc. Would have sent some Old Fart's Garage decals and a t- shirt too. Dave
I have one question - if this was indeed a scam (and it appears to be) what good does asking for free stuff & then giving a wrong address for people to send stuff to do? seems to be counter productive to me. kind of like that guy in nigeria asking for you to send the money to china. I would think that it would make more sense to ask for the freebies but there be no kid involved? and don't most of these scams go to a PO box so that somebody who got ripped off does not show up & teach the scammer a lesson? Just a couple of random thoughts. And I guess that was actually a few questions. lol
When the boys were little we raced unoffical soapbox cars here in town. The boys wrote several different companies for stickers for their cars. The got free stickers back from most of them. Here's one of my son Ryan out in front in the 20 car.
Thats the way we are. Usually we sell our decals at swap meets etc., but if a little guy is wanting one bad and daddy can't afford it, well you know there will be one in his hands when he leaves. Being a grampa of 5 I just have a soft spot for the little ones I guess lol
If you were running a scam of any kind and someone showed up at your door asking about a person you knew was a fictitious person would you admit it was you?
they are clogging the internet with commentary like this thread if you respond via email they have your email address if you respond via post you are cluttering the postal service with dead mail or if the mail does get received and you put a return address on it they now have that too. at the minimum it makes as much sense as a chain letter professing bad luck if you don't pass it on. the letter reads exactly like all those other scam emails floating out there. typical sob story with minimal or incorrect information. and it's nothing new, there have been liars as long as there has been communication. signed the cynic
I like it that Chopshop put this at the top of the original post <HR style="COLOR: #e5e5e5; BACKGROUND-COLOR: #e5e5e5" SIZE=1> <!-- / icon and title --> <!-- message -->And yeah its legit.. Maybe others want to send stuff too? and then hasn't posted anything about the "scam"
there was a kid who was going on a fishing website i go to. he laid out his sad story of not having a dad and his mom couldn't afford to buy him tackle so he was just asking for some fishing hooks. no big deal. but his plan worked out cause before you knew it people were sending him there reels a and tackle boxes and what ever else they could spare, just cause they wanted to be niece and help him it. turns out the little prick was taking it and posting all the stuff on another fishing website which caters to ocean fishing, for sale. and of course one of the guys who goes on there too seen his tackle, and the fight was on!! turned out he was a grown man just trying to scam people.
Damn sticker scamer. I ought to send him a lump of coal. Lets do it! one of my favorite internet scams was the guy saling solar powered clothes drier! you order it and you would reciave two poles and a rope!
That's why you check feedback and complaints on the ePay site before you do business. That's also why you have the ability to leave negative feedback, etc.
Thats funny I got the same e-mail sent to me as well? I was thinking of grabbing some stickers and sending them to the little guy. I hate scammers and dishonest people! Jimmy White
There's a company that you can send a big-o-pile of crap in a box, completely anonymously: http://www.poopsenders.com/ The package comes with a card but you have to open the bag of poo to get it.
The best place to find if something is true or not is www.snopes.com. They aren't perfect, but I use it to check out if things are true that I receive in emails etc. I did a search and did not come up with anything. Of course if this is a new scam, they wouldn't have info on it yet.
I did get an email back from her telling me- just dont remember the date- June 2nd maybe? Sorry have CRS today....Maybe it is a scam but its only stickers man- I dont see the big deal.
Didn't you read the part where the guy went to the address and the kid didn't live there. Or the story about the "kid" that asked for the hooks?
I did- Guess Im just trying to hope maybe there are still some honest people in the world. I give my stickers out for free at shows- god knows what people do with them then....
If someone shows up at my door asking about my family I don't release any information either if I don't know them. She may live at her dads address and her name would not be on it. I'll send some anyway.
If it was a kid from one of our families here on the HAMB , I have no problems helping out . But to get a sad story from another country from someone you don't know . I don't buy it . Maybe I am a dick but I have been ripped off enough to know better . I know it's only a sticker but maybe she is doing this all over the country with as many car forums she can find on the internet . Anyway , if someone finds out that this is on the up & up , I will gladly send some sticker ! Just tell me where you want them to be sent and when . Retro Jim
I think deu55 knows the kid and doesn't like him, so he is telling us that the kid does not live there so he wont get the stickers........ yea yea thats the ticket (I'm kidding of course)
I was all ready to send the "kid" some unbuilt model cars and some building supplies. (I keep buying them, but I know I should be out in the garage working on real cars.) Maybe that's what I'll do when I'm at the point of needing my diapers changed and whatnot. I was excited to help, but now I'm pretty bummed that it was just some douche. What sucks is now a days it's a big deal when someone does the right thing. In years past it was just business as usual. I'm glad I didn't waste time and money giving a 30 year old loser something to sell on EGAY. I'm planning on taking some unopened models and handing them out to kids at the Duck Drags at Tulas Raceway Park. (People in OK should check this event out.) It is laid back and is a family affair, spearheaded by Duckuscrapus here on the Hamb.
