    i have no idea what your talking about

    but on another note, is it necessary to put a k-member in or are there any real advantages? ive been thinking of doing so after i shorten the ladder bars if their is enough room.

    It certainly couldn't hurt to put a k-member in there. Probably should. It'll stiffen up the frame to deal with the torque and give you a mount point for a driveshaft loop too. I'd also serisouly consider remaking those ladder bars in the rear. Make them triangular so the converging point at the end of the triangle is right where the forward frame attachment is. Couldn't hurt to make them longer either.

    got my driveshaft back from being made so i made the hoops

    i also did some trading+labor and got a 3x2 setup. woohoo!

    i still need to lower the grill shell a little bit and i'd like to get a longer one since the one i have is chopped 4.5 in. it looks like it needs to cover the axle more...

    its a cnc pedal and master combo. they are local here in san diego and are usually used on dunebuggies.

    ill take that as a compliment. :) im not really sure but it can't hurt! i still have a lot more to do on the subfloor though.

    Very nice looking and I love the stance! I was wondering what you decided to do about the control arms. Also, shouldn't the frame mounts be in double shear? Anyway, great looking build so far...

    Do you ever think about cleaning the metal (grinding off the rust) before making your welds? Just curious.

    Yeah, I see a lot of control arms/traction bars on hot rods in single shear so it may suffice, but I won't build mine that way. Below is a diagram I found on the web illustrating the difference between single and double shear.

    The upper is single, the lower is double. Imagine your traction bar is the piece that has the arrow pointed to the right and your chassis mount has the arrow(s) pointed to the left.

    hmmm. so you are suggesting that i somehow have a bracket on both sides of where the heim mounts to the frame rail?

    Basically, yeah... There's a few ways to do it and I'm sure you can come up with something. But that being said, I see a LOT of vintage style hot rods with arms mounted in single shear. Coming from a racing and offroad background, I'm used to building stuff stouter than it needs to be, so maybe for a lightweight hot rod the hardware most people use is sufficient in single shear. If I ever want to run slicks at the strip I want to know my junk won't rip apart so I'm planning on going double shear with everything.

    Also, the longer your mounting points are from the axle centerline, the less force is applied to the bolt under accel/deceleration. So the whole single vs. double shear discussion becomes less critical with longer arms. Nonetheless, I don't want to risk it.

    p.s. the driveshaft isnt in all the way, but it does fit center in the hoop.

    and i fixed the grill shell situation by flipping the radiator upside down(thanks scott aka scootermcrad)
