steering is backwards???

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Dan, Apr 20, 2010.

  1. It's been government mandated since, right around, that time.

I corrected myself. I am so used to doing it backwards now, I have to stop and actually think about what is right and what is not. lol

All I know, is I have the ****** cam for arm on top, and I was supposed to have one for arm on the bottom. top vs bottom.

At least I knew someone wasn't going to steal my bike. Hard to start in 4th..

FX vs. FL shifter drum. I've seen it before. In fact, I've got a customers bike in the shop that's set up that way right now.
Didn't mean to sidetrack the thread, sorry 'bout that.

I still like the "flip the steering wheel over" comment! Ya that'll do it!

I've been playing a wwII tank based video game. the map in the game is normal with north up but my office where the computer is faces south and it's really starting to mess me up in my real life directions...

Your reminding me of the several times I got one of my shifter linkages on upside down...

More stories. My dad had a '26 Chev as a kid. He must've changed the pitman arm for a shorter one I am guessing because it used to turn the right way to a point then the pitman arm went past centre and it would start turning the other way.

he taught my mum to drive in that car....it shows.

A buddy found out you can ***emble a Model A rear end with the ring gear on the wrong side of the pinion. He had trouble getting out of his garage also. He dropped the clutch in reverse and the car shot forward into the wall. I think we told him that "he could get used to it" and also offered to help him turn the body around the other way on the frame.

That's damn funny! I did that just 2 years ago so I can relate. You can not imagine how fast a steering wheel can move back and forth...Until the hose bursts, spraying oil on the headers and catching on fire. Then you can't believe your car is on fire.... It happens

well pretty simple really, one buddy was working on it till 5am and got lots done...woke up the next day to go back to work and realized it was steering backwards, we thought he had the pitman pointing down (bear in mind 99 percent of this trouble shooting was taking place on the phone and the box had already been taken back off) but after the fog cleared it was pointing up...
sorry, pretty un-dramatic ending to the story but good for us and the creative solutions you guys offered were great!

That one has been done before by many people !
There is another way to get around it BUT you must always and I mean always steer the car with your hand on the bottom of the wheel . With your hand on the bottom of the wheel when your want to turn right , your hand will move to the right which really is the left ! Or put a suicide knob on the bottom of the steering wheel and drive it from that thing ONLY Think about it and you will see I am right !
But the bad thing is if you ever steer from the top well.....you get the idea !

There are some funny responces in here, glad you got it straightened out.

There is a guy I know that has a "reverse steer" bike he made, he takes it to the race track and bets people on whether they can ride it, watching the people try is hilarious (drinking is generally involved too). I will tell you I quit, man it's hard to do. If you search reverse steering bike on YouTube you can find a bunch of them.

Glad I am not the only one reversing the steering on my boat... A wonderful "Duh" moment...

Not to hijack the thread, but since the original problem is solved, here is a pic of our 7.5 foot vintage "Moonbeam" Hellion, albeit slightly "photoshopped"! Big Bird appears to still be upset regarding the reversed steering and is just driving with NO HANDS!

When i used to fly giant scale rc planes...one of the most important things to program into your Transmitter is left and right ailerons....I have seen several ppl build planes and "think" it is setup right. Most of the time they "re-kit " the plane.
